Bio:
I began experimenting with recording in 2005, not to long after picking up a guitar. I have quite a few songs from that era that are unstructured, raw and incomplete. I set music aside for a good while until very recently. I hope to redo and improve those songs I had before, and continue to evolve as a singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist. Music Background
I began violin at age 5. I was trained classically and followed the Suzuki method until the beginning of high school. Having quit private lessons, I continued to play in the school orchestra until 10th grade.
I had one year of piano during 5th grade.
I received a guitar for christmas around 19 years of age
Music Skills
The Suzuki method complemented my natural ability to reproduce what I heard by ear, however it also contributed to my underdeveloped comprehension of music theory and reading music. During the sight reading part of auditions, I would play like I had very little experience, but play the song for me a few times and I can reproduce it quickly.
I taught myself guitar by ear. Being the stubborn being that I am, I refused to look at tabs or even memorize the strings. I viewed this as a puzzle, a challenge, and I spent countless hours listening to music that i liked and moving from string to string to string to find the chords. Once I was accustomed to the chord patterns up and down the neck of the guitar i began to working on dexterity, and moving form chord to chord seamlessly. I will never master the guitar, but I have come a long way. These few years were some of the most gratifying I have had, aside from writing and recording my first song.
Recently I have committed myself to re learning music theory, having never really learned it to begin with, and do this simultaneously with developing my understanding and skill on the piano.
