Started listening to jazz through my dad, then rock and roll through the radio, classical and Broadway musicals through my brother, then The Beatles through my sister, television and movies, then The Rolling Stones, The Who, Steely Dan by myself, Dire Straits through my sister, and a whole bunch of other stuff from Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks to Ludwig van to Satie, to Holst, to Debussy and on and on and on.

Took obligatory piano lessons in grade school. Learned to play guitar and bass on my own.
