Bio:
Straight out of Southside-Chicago, Illinois is the self-proclaimed, "Triple Threat," Nelace, pronounced, 'Nel-lis'. Boasting a successful resume that includes songwriting, producing, and graphic designing, Nelace has already established what other college graduates have only dreamt. As a youthful boy, he was very active in gymnastics and sports, experimenting very little into the music genre. Relocating to Charlotte, NC right after his 9th birthday, Nelace began to take his artistic endeavors more seriously, especially once good grades at high-school became the top priority. In late 2004, after moving out and finding financial stability through working in the advertising field, he took all of his savings and purchased what he calls, "the terminal factor" for his growth as a music artist and aspiring producer. Never too quick to give up what equipment and software he utilizes to create his studio-savvy material, it is apparent that Nelace has came a long way from the days of beat-boxing and freestyling.
In February 2005, Nelace fused with one of his long-time best friends, Tay, to create From Skratch Media--a movement that includes everything from creating music to writing film scripts. Together, they've meshed their innovative ideas to promote, market, and develop two defiantly, distinct sounds of hip-hop music. Tay, playing both in-house producer and business partner, has also been pivotal in From Skratch's instant success and loyal fanbase. In "The Kitchen" is where they've successfully concocted his first official demo for the streets, "The Buffet Mixtape," which includes the instant classics, "Yep, Some Day Soon," "Amp'd Up," and "Uprising."
Nelace is presently 'the face' of From Skratch Media as the MC, but his cinematic production skills give his stellar penmanship a run for its money. His writing approach, as he explains, is like puzzle pieces trying to find their way to the overall composition. His goal with each song, is to perfectly balance substance with style, how with what, part with whole. Never wanting his vivid lyricism and catchy-hooks to outshine his dramatic backdrops, he has already produced a number of tracks for other indie-artists who admire the young Charlottean's knack for song structuring and musical directing. His quest is to master the style of 'no style' and after a recent listening session on his beats, one can only describe them as melancholic, aggressive, and driven. His drums are usually strong and the way he sequences the patterns are noteworthy. He always creates his melodies from scratch, straying away from the popularized use of sampling and looping methods. Be on the lookout for Nelace and From Skratch Media's rise to stardom during the 4th quarter of this year. However, if you're a little too antsy to wait until then, Nelace and Tay both have websites for you to check out his music @ myspace.com/nelace and myspace.com/tayfewell, respectively. If that isn't enough, a full-fledged website is in construction---makes one wonder, does this guy sleep? It's From Skratch!
