Music Background I spent several years learning djembe, dundumba, kenkeni and sangban, but then fell out of the African hand drumming scene to spend time with my new wife. She's now an x-wife, or x2, as I am fond of calling her. No need to honor her with an actual name. So, I'm contemplating getting back to drumming seriously with the African clan. In the meantime, I got a copy of GarageBand and have been having a blast creating what is to me some rather amusing stuff. Not everyone would call it music, let along good music, but that's OK. Tom is happy.
Music Skills As I said, I can play djembe and the dunumba and some guitar. I really prefer rhythm guitar, since I just don't seem to have the patience and discipline to learn how to pluck all those notes. If it weren't for bar chords, I would probably be getting more reading done in my spare time. . .
Music Hardware What about a Squire Stratpack? I know, pretty entry level, but it works. No, it rocks -- or at least I make it rock. It's more than enough guitar for my meager skills. I've also got a Columbia acoustic, a Gibson Epiphone acoustic, and a genuine West African (Senegal) djembe. I've never found another with a tone anywhere near as nice as mine.
Music Software GarageBand. What more need be said?
