Explaining why she gave it up, someone once said that in high school the clarinet was pretty much a loser stick. I graduated in 1969, a long time ago, and still enjoy playing it. Though I play saxophone as well, in recent years I've been thinking about how during the swing era the clarinet was a popular instrument and clarinet players Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw were huge pop stars. I want to try to create contemporary clarinet music.
