Music Background I have done a lot of studying but also learned a lot from doing. Started scatting when I was a child listening to my Dad's jazz albums. Wanted to sing all of the instrumental parts right off the bat. My first musical instrument other than my voice was a french horn and I became first chair by junior high. Studied violin and piano as a child, never got very far with either. I take to instruments with single voices the best, not surprisingly. :) Recorders, saxophone, trumpet, the afore-mentioned french horn, and the erhu (which has only two strings and sounds remarkably close to a human voice when played well). Lost my voice after a few years of singing jazz in smokey clubs. Voice class at a local junior college helped me get my voice back and turned me on to the fact that I had the voice for opera. Joined a few choirs - sang opera, sang gospel, sang lieder and art songs, sang jazz. Studied music theory and composition in college and took private lessons in the classical repertoire for both coloratura and lyric soprano. Composed music and did arrangements. Sang for a living for a while. Hated the music 'business'. Enjoying the online collaborative music sites A LOT. It's a whole new world for musicians nowadays and I find it exciting rather than daunting. I have a lot of music available for listening at icompositions.com.
Music Skills Voice (singing of all kinds, vocalizing - sound effects and instruments, vocal 'landscaping', improv/scat) Songwriting (both melodies and lyrics or lyrics only - accompaniments, songbeds, astmospheres) Arranging (esp. vocal arrangements and harmonies, re-envisioning 'standards') Spoken Word (poetry to music, poetry alone, encorporating spoken word 'jams' into songs) Keyboards (enough to play a little, but never while performing - enough to compose with) Percussion (mallet instruments, congas, this and that)
Music Hardware Digio 001 from DigiDesign USB Mixer from Alesis Electronic guitar with midi from Yamaha Casio keyboard with full-sized keys as a midi-controller Powered speakers Midi Sport 2x2 from M-audio Boom mic stand MXL USB Mic Shur SM58 Mic Altec-Lansing headphone/mic combo (spoze it's for gaming but it works well for music too)
Music Software Logic Pro Studio ProTools LE Audacity Peak and SoundSoap Finale Smart Music Studio GarageBand SoundConverter EJamming Audiio Skype and Ustream (which I use for music broadcasting) Camtwist (also for broadcasting)
