ABOUT COLLABORATING
I am learning a lot from partners about this process of music collaboration. There is a certain rhythm that seems to slosh me about like the tide, half the time flopped up on the beach, just being, the rest of the time splashing around joyfully in the ocean.
And for me, songwriting is also something like sculpting in clay, building up, tearing down, slopping on a bunch of formless offal and peeling it back away gently, carefully, like some nutcase archaeologist searching for a diamond in a turd.... well, maybe not exactly, heh... but, yes, a process of tearing down what I have built up.
And the partner in crime (you, for example) needs to be patient and encouraging, shrewd enough to call ya willis, to leave you informed in a way that is sort of unspecific while specific, that "something really sucks, so fix that, please, please, please" --- so, of course, I need to be patient, shrewd and encouraging, too, easy for me with the music, but maybe more difficult from a distance. frequent email exchanges, and occasional phone calls, are pretty much the tools you have to use.
Enough for now.
