"I´ve always been fascinated by the keyboard, the touch, the sound, the texture, the subtle nuances. My brother played the trumpet when we were kids. I thought it was cool that I could play a lot of notes while he could just play one"

My interest in the piano began when I was around 5 years old. We had an old upright grand in the basement. It was missing a lot of the ivory key-tops and my oldest brother had carved his name in the fall board with a knife. But every now and again I heard my grandmother play this piano and was taken with the instrument. I began by trying to figure out how to play a couple of songs I heard. After a short time, my grandmother sat with me and taught me to play a version of The Entertainer by Scott Joplin. She suffered from claustrophobia, so her lessons were given from the top of the stairs as I practiced below. She would come down to show me a few things, then retreat back to the top of the stairs. After about 3 months she convinced my parents to arrange formal piano lessons, and I have never looked back.

Throughout my 30 plus years of sitting behind the piano, I have performed in numerous venues; in bands, small groups, choirs, solo performances, and it seems, everything in between. Music, and specifically the piano, have been an integral part of life for me longer than most anything else.
