Bio:
Currently making my living as an Multimedia Designer (Web, motion graphics and video). I've been known to do a voiceover or two. GarageBand is luring me back into music, after a long absence. Let's see where this journey leads. Influences include: Stevie Wonder, Todd Rundgren, Fred Hammond, Commissioned, Brian Eno, David Bowie, Twila Paris, Tomita, Synergy, Stockhausen, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Sly & The Family Stone, Steely Dan, Billy Preston, Weather Report, Jimi Hendrix, Patrick Moraz, Yes, Gentle Giant, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, TONTO, Frank Zappa, James Brown, Maxayn, Syreeta, Cameo, Elton John, Claude Debussy, Johann Sebastian Bach, The Residents, Fred Frith, Marvin Gaye, Walter/Wendy Carlos, Bollywood music, Geeta Dutt Lately, I've been listening to a lot of electronica in its different flavors. Particularly on the iTunes stations, like Groove Salad, Jazzmusique and Secret Agent. What's nice about the music is its departure from the standard American pop formula. Some pieces are bold audio explorations, others are neat sonic environments. This is a movement that goes beyond "The Rules" of music. The use of concrete textures and sometimes asynchronous rhythms are a refreshing alternative to the vapid product that is contemporary Top 100 radio. It might be the music Stockhausen or Morton Subotnik would be making if they were of this generation. Unlike what passes for Jazz these days, there are no pretentions to the music. It is what it is. Electronica is also just great music to work in front of the computer by. For me, right now, GarageBand seems to lend itself well to this style of music. I don't know all of the Electronica (House, Downtempo, Ambient — whatever) artists that have impressed me, but here are the names of those I've identified or can remember: Fatboy Slim (you must see the "Weapon Of Choice" video), Telepopmusik, Moby, The KLF, The Chemical Brothers, Dr. Rockit, Orlando Voorn, Killa Dawgs
