Music Background
Through the years, I’ve written and performed music in a variety of styles. I started out, like most kids, playing rock music with school friends. My first serious band was a pop-rock outfit called Los Hijos del Trueno. As such, we recorded and performed throughout Mexico City and toured a little bit for about three years. Then my sister, Christy Moreno, who was the vocalist and pianist of the band, recorded a solo album for which I wrote all the songs and recorded most of the music. During that time in Mexico, I played in a number of other bands ranging from heavy metal to pop rock. I came to the US for college and joined the school’s jazz band on string bass. This was a wonderful time of growth and learning. I decided to minor in music and took courses in harmony and aural theory. During this time I was gigging regularly on bass guitar for churches and other events. Then I started a little jazz/funk/latin ensemble with the other guys in the rhythm section. This evolved into a band which to date is my proudest musical achievement: Claroscuro. It consisted of my sister on piano and vocals, me on bass and three other musicians on saxophone, drums and percussion. We recorded an album and played regularly throughout our college years. Sadly, marriages and different life ambitions split up our band (amicably) and we all ended up moving away. After that I played in a salsa band, then a Spanish pop band and some solo stuff. And then I found GarageBand. In my short musical life I have been fortunate to delve into many different styles: rock, pop, jazz, funk, reggae, salsa and even a little bit of tejano. Now that I’m learning how to make computer music I’m exploring a musical style I’ve always loved, electronic pop. I’ve long been a fan of synthpop, all the way from Kraftwerk to Ladytron, and that’s where I find my inspiration these days.
