Re:what is your weakest point?

I have to do one continuous take- whether it be vocal or guitar or whatever. If I mess up the last note... the whole track gets redone.

Inconsistent confidence. You know what I mean- you do something and think, "man, this sounds pretty good. I think I'll post this on Macjams". Of course the same day you're going to The Tiler, McBoy, Ziti, Eleveneyes, I.Spike and Pie will all post songs at the same time and you go- "What the hell was I thinking?" Macjams is like life... rewarding and humbling at the same time.

Poor time management- I'll literally get fired up to record listening to songs posted here and instead of recording I'll keep listening to more MJ music. Damn you all! Smile

My huge weakness is playing my guitar badly already for 15 years. No improvement at all after all those years.

Another problem are lyrics. Really struggling to write something meaningful, not completely stupid and more in rhyme.

But the weakest point of mine is the self confidence. It is very, very low. And if by any chance raises up a bit, it can be one silly too critical word or tiny bit harsh critical sentence, and my self confidence is buried even deeper, then it was at the beginning.

And now I am standing naked in front of you Smile

My weakness? Well a nice firm butt gets me everytime, I'm not too bothered about breast size but its a nice butt thats the killer!

... oh sorry! are we talking about Music??

I would say that I am so keen to get the guitar and vocal tracks down on a song that I tend to settle for the first few attempts rather than keep at it to get the best take, sometimes I even record the basic guitar track before I finish deciding what the sequence will be! I often have to go back and record bits anyway! Patiences, or lack of, is my weakness!

chocalate cake....pina colada's....my g spot....my left heel.....so many........mixing is right up there......but the more one does it and the more feedback from macjammers the better one gets........weakness can be a motivator to get better and improve...no better place to expose your musical weaknessness than here at macjams...with the wealth of listnening experience found here and the graciousness to help one can only strenghten and improve any musical shortcomings.....i always use michael jordan the basketball playeras a example to shoot for.....considered to be the best of all time....his 3 point shot was a definite weakness in his game...one year he worked on it relentlessly during the off season and the rest is history.....most of all have fun working on your "game"......

Gee, I was just 'talking' about this...

Weaknesses...

I don't have a great ear for pitch. So working up a melody takes me a long time, and then singing it takes a long time, and singing harmony is quite the chore. I can sometimes hear things in my head that I just can't get to come out of my mouth.

I have a weird sort of voice, and a pretty limited range. A limited range that seems to be CHANGING these days, getting lower, which takes getting used to...

I really love playing lead guitar, and I'm just not that good at it. My time as a rhythm guitarist is pretty decent. As a lead guitarist, I tend to play behind the beat. (In a recording program, you can SEE it...) I also overplay. Too many notes, and too much wandering. And my fingerpicking is getting looser... my thumb is not landing on the beat as it should...

And I don't get things finished. I've got between ten and twenty recordings going right now and I don't seem to get them done...

I like mixing. I tend to overdo the tracking, and end up with eight tracks of one thing that I need to edit down and make decisions about, and that takes me forever. Or I go with two tracks of everything when one, in which I play the thing RIGHT, would do...

I overdo compression. I also buy programs and then buy another before I've really learned the first. I suspect that I already have enough stuff in this iMac to make a work of genius, if I actually put the time in and learned what I've already got...

I use a capo on the bass.

That should do for starters...

Heh heh yerself, McBoy...

I've actually been working on that thing... getting what I think is a usable acoustic guitar sound...

Of course, you HAD to write it in Z flat, modulating to Q minor for the groove...

It's just not LIKE the music on MY planet...

Weak points... It would probably be less time consuming to post the small handful of things I do right! But if I had to pick weak points it would be mixing and singing. I was considering sound engineering school until I realized I just don't have the ear for it. Singing is the same. I don't think I'm terrible, but then I hear someone who can really sing and I'm like, "THAT sounds good".
