The bug has bitten
Saturday, August 07 2004 @ 05:04 PM CDT
I started playing with GB the day it came out and was amazed. It is now months later and I would like to thank Apple for getting me back into music.
I was pretty heavy into the music business years ago. I was a recoring engineer/producer with a degree in music business. I was also an A&R rep for RCA. After a few bad deals as a producer [the kind u hear about on VH1] I left the business. Started a family started a new line of work and set off for a new life. I did have a few things go good in the business. I have a platinum and gold record on the wall. I went to the Grammies as a nominated producer [did not win]So I felt OK about leaving the business. Then Apple releases GB. Now I have a full recording studio in my house (computer based) New monitors, a recording board, keyboards lots of outboards gear, mics, and tons of software. I still use GB everyday but I have graduated to Logic Pro for finishing projects. I have started mixing for customers again and started playing around with this new fangled electronic music thang and started composing trance/techno whatever you call it music. And all I can say is thank you Apple! I love every min. of this. I still do my day gig, but I play with music all night. I just found this site so I have a new home to hang out with fellow GB junkies. Thanks for the site Macjams. All I have to say to people that want to get back into music. DO IT! It makes the bad days good again. Chuck (Pixelhead) |

So now you spilled the beans about your (previous) work,
we are all going to become your bestest friends on Macjams. you can listen to all my tracks athttp://www......... Roflol. seriously, Welcome to the site, there are many of us here who do not have your experience with music and yet have got together and made new friends and made better music because of the Macjams community. GB is a great software program, and I for one am having a great adventure. Lots of artists are collaborating here and working together in a way that really has not been done before. Feedback (as you will see from the forum posts) by way of comments is an inportant part of the site and there is also plenty of humour... I hope at times some of us may call on your expertise so we can improve on our music skills. so again, Welcome to MJs Glad to have you here! (well unless you post horrid things. I echo your sentiments, although my musical history is not quite so storied. GB has introduced me to recording concepts I never knew/understood before, and I can easily create much more professional recordings than those I used to struggle over before. This software, along with my laptop, has created a personal music renaissance for me.

Amen and ditto! My bio says the same thing. Got away from music years ago. I wrote and performed some songs for my daughter's weddings. They in turn last April gave my GarageBand for my birthday. I am hooked and loving it. And I am not looking for a cure!

Thanks all for the kind words.
If I can give any help with recording techniques, tips or tricks I will try to answer them. I have worked with all kinds of music in the past but I have a lot of background with Rock, and Urban/Dance/Hip hop. the first being my favorite. the second paid the bills for a while. I will post some songs soon after I finish some. The one thing I hate about GB is the amount of loops to play with. As soon as I get half way done with a song I click on a sound that makes me want to start a new song. So I have about 50 unfinshed tracks.javascript:emoticon(' ')

Well I just posted a song the I did today. It is a jazzy trio track. I have no idea where this came from but I can tell you that I had a smile from ear to ear while doing it. I did engineer some jazz before but never wrote any. I just started a second one that is more swing. I will try and finish it up tomorrow.
Maybe after I get out of this Jazz Mode I will finish some of my electronic and Rock ones. Chuck (Pixelhead) |
