Re:Experienced Pro Session Singer (F) Available
Friday, April 20 2007 @ 01:45 PM CDT
Sally, I would urge you not to concern yourself with anyone taking offense with your posts. Ian's unfortunate comments about elitism and crucifixion notwithstanding, I.Spike (a remarkably talented and by all appearances level-headed, wonderfully odd gentleman) and I were merely trying to point out that the nature of this site is such that marketing your services as a paid session singer here will likely not produce much fruit. That's all. This site has seen many people cruise by here over the years with no intention of participating or even seeing what the community is about - only to solicit business, sometimes in a way that actually *has* been offensive. Because of that, some here have a rather quick trigger finger, and will jump on people they think are spammers. That accounts for why you met with a wee bit of harsh reaction. You seem like a very nice, civil, intelligent, talented person, one who could enrich this site. I hope at some point you produce music of your own and bring it here to share and get comments, and leave comments on others' songs, which is what this site is about. I can assure you you'd be received very warmly, and people would be very grateful to receive the perspective of a pro like yourself. Musicians here would be happy to contribute tracks to your songs, and would be grateful for your participation on theirs. That's MacJams, as far as my three-year perspective as a member here is concerned. This is a great place - I have made friends here from all over the planet, even though I have never met them face to face. They have helped me improve my music, and I have contributed to their music as well. I have had questions answered in the forum, and I've had many laughs with many folks here, and tried to help people through some difficult times. This community is well-stocked with truly wonderful human beings with a wide range of musical abilities. MacJams is a treasure. I hope you become one of us. -Patrick (futz) |

((((((Patrick))))) Thank you for your genuine kindness.
I registered fully with the intention of sharing my own music & hearing the music others make & hoped to make some new friends along the way. I now realise my posting so soon after registering has made me look suspicious and only here for one thing. I apologise again and am happy for admin to remove this thread & hope that I can continue to be a member for all the right reasons. |

Welcome aboard this ship of nuts, geniuses, poets, revolutionaries and dignitaries, Sally.
Like many others, when you first posted I assumed you were simply using MacJams to beat the bushes for business. The tone and wording suggested so, and your artist page was little more than an extension of your commercial website - right to being written in the third person. Just the same, I followed through via your link to have a look, and it left me convinced that you were indeed everything you said you were - talented, experienced and one hell of a singer. So why MacJams? Right or wrong, you seemed to be seeking clients for your services, and like most such posts, I simply ignored it. No point in being rude to a lady I've never met. There was nothing wrong with posting so soon after registering either - how else do we know you're here? The wording just gave the impression that, if we were willing to pay $$, you'd work with us. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but MacJams isn't the arena for it. Personally, I'm here because, via GarageBand (sigh... I know I sound like an Apple commercial whenever I say this) I've rediscovered the musician in me I thought I walked away from twenty years ago - and via MacJams, I've rediscovered the fun and power of music when shared with other people. (I think, when the first Neanderthal discovered there was music to be made by banging rocks together, also discovered it was more fun to bang those rocks together with other Neanderthals.) In truth, I'd be scared to death to touch an instrument in front of some of the talent that roams these halls, but here I can join in, learn, create and share ideas and explore the musician I once wanted to be. That, I think, is what MJ is all about. There's definitely a place for you here, Sally. Not much $$$, but there is music, support, ideas and friendship to spare. No more apologies needed; buy us all a beer and we're good. Rik |

Now that I understand while you're really here, welcome!
I will look forward to your musical offerings. I apologize if I was a heinous jackal of nastiness... Solid.

Cheers guys
I feel rather stupid to be honest. I really didn't do any thinking when I posted - I never considered the potential implications. It was more a 'While I'm here' thing, but was not the sole purpose of my being here.BTW I tried to comment on a track earlier & I couldn't? What do I need to do to be able to comment? thanks! |

Welcome, Sally. I'm glad that you're here, especially since we REALLY need more women. I've heard you sing and you're very obviously terrific and I hope you'll hang out and share some of what you know.
One thing about the community here is that we are both incredibly forgiving and short-memoried, so you have nothing to worry about as far as starting off on the wrong foot. You've made it clear that you're here for the experience and you have a great deal to offer with your talent and knowledge. Maybe you could let us know what you've done to try to leave a comment and we can use that info to figure out what's going wrong. As long as you're logged in and able to post in the forums, you should be able to leave a comment either in the "quik post" box just above where the comments start, or by using the [Reply to This] at the bottom of each comment. Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your time here. Steve's not kidding with the chocolate thing, either. It doesn't even have to be a whole bar. He's a chocohussy. |
