Re:What does the populace want to hear?
Saturday, July 24 2010 @ 10:28 PM CDT
awww snap!!! *grabs popcorn* j/k I think the preferences really are up to the individual. There might be some underlying psychology to which sex prefers what but in the end why does it even matter? For example when I was younger I was very much tuned to the hardcore/grunge/metal and the whole tough guy act as a I grew older my preferences changed and now listening to bands with female singers or androgynous male singers is something I find equally if not more appealing to my tastes, I still love all that hardcore stuff but it's just a matter of personal tastes. |

Personally, I think there's a tendency to take music in general too fooking seriously these days. However, I do feel that young artists, who in the past would have made it no further than "Tiger Beat" magazine and perhaps a short-lived sit-com in terms of public exposure, have now been elevated to mega superstar status. I'm sure that has to do somehow with our now seemingly nonstop exposure to the media, especially on the internet, where they are looking for new stories every moment and these artists' publicity agents are only happy to supply an avalanche of material on a quotidian basis.
I've never given a rip about what the general public is reading, watching wearing, or listening to since I was born and no going into Sam Goody and picking up some LPs or CDs right off the track for me--I often had to spend time looking through catalogs and special ordering the type of music I was most interested in listening to. A bit of a hassle, but it leads directly to my next point: There is always great music of all kinds for all tastes out there--you just have to look a litter harder to find it is all! I'll sign that peace treaty, Reggie. Life's too short to waste it typing. -- Joanna |
