That another, and perhaps simpler way - I have still to experiment with this - is that it seems one can use Logic's "direction mixer" on the master output and set it to mono.

Neat if so ! That would offer a way to check mixes for phase cancellation issues without the use of an extraneous plugin or the need to make a mono bounce, which some people do to deal with this.
