High to low pass filter
Saturday, February 06 2010 @ 02:17 AM CST
Hi,
I'm using LE9 and am trying to figure out how to automate a high to low pass filter (and vise-versa). So you actually hear the change over time within the song. The effect is used in many dance tracks but just when you need it i cant think of any examples!! Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers ed |

I think you're looking for "automation." Logic allows you to control plugins by drawing automation on tracks. You could, for instance, select the frequency of your lowpass filter and sweep it up over the course of several measures.

Thanks. Yeah i use the automation feature for volume and panning effects but cant figure out how to use it for the high and low pass filters. If you can do it that way. I've used the auto filter plug in but would like a bit more control. I like the simplicity of the automation in Logic. Can you actually automate a high or low pass in Logic? Hope so. |

Hi.I use 8,but it should be the same..Just select the track, insert a channel EQ.Set the automation for the track to touch..Then just push play (no need to clik record) and sweep the low freq to the rite..This cuts the low end.. When you let go of the low freq or mouse the EQ should revert back to its' original setting...If you want to view the automation clik A then you can clik the window and select what you want to see or at bottom rite of the track titla area you can add lanes..Again I'm on 8 and have a bunch of sleep in my eyes...You can either A?B by turning the automation box to none or read..Learn about the 3 modes..touch,latch,write ...You can switch between them as you work also.. This way you can work in realtime then fine tune later.Taylor

Hey Ed,
I always thought that effect you are talking about was the flanger. I thought that they just put the flanger on the master track and set it to a slow roll and it would give you that rolling filter from high to low then back. I could be wrong, but it might be a good thing to experiment with. Automation can turn it on and off at a particular point. Stephen |

I was thinking the same thing, it probably is that flanger effect |

similar idea, but not a flanger. that flanger trick was a 70's thing; the automated filter is a dance thing. used on drums a lot. they'll sometimes drop everything out of the track and the drums will lose all bottom end and sound kind of like a transistor radio. or they will slowly sweep through the frequency range during a build-up. |
