Given that you leave voting enabled, ya goes with wot ya get...I still say, if you reckon you're getting bombed, make a joke of it; enjoy being rude to an a-hole, give everyone else a laugh.

yeah, this has all been discussed before, but does it make it any less relevant to people who are experiencing it for the first time?
and let us all be real here; we all put a ton of time, emotion and energy into every note we sing, compose play and mix. to think we are all prolific songwriters of rob's category would be silly. i am nowhere near rob's overwhelming talent, but i do hate it when i put all i have on the line, and someone who either dislikes me or dislikes themself has to bomb my music, and rip into my style of playing, writing etc...
now we cannot all be rob, with his million dollar studio, and his crew of studio musicians on standby, ready to release the next big thing, but we can all agree that everyone's voice has relevance, regardless of talent, or musical style. we can agree that everyone's voice rings with relevancy to someone, even if it is not us it rings for. music is being taken away from our youth at a devastating rate. it is being phased out of american schools and replaced with acounting and customer service training. to bomb creativity out of jealousy or because you personally dont like someone places you in the same category as those who would get rid of music in schools and leave the creativity to a chosen few, rather than everyone! we can agree that arrogance toward another person is simply a lack of stability in that person's own emotional makeup. ratings are flawed, but so is the human condition. if we all possessed rob's genius and hit writing musical ability, there would be no need for a site such as macjams to hone and refine our craft amongst others who love music as equally as we do ourselves.
if you want to be smart and funny at the same time, rob, do it the right way and have a little respect for others around you. |
Wow. If you want to attack me personally, feel free.
I'm not trying to be smart nor funny. If one has voting enabled and then cries about not getting 10s? That's pretty pathetic. Why should my honest vote be any less valid simply because I don't vote along the curve with the rest of the MJ Circle Jerk Club? What's "fair" about that? It's crap. It's been crap since the day they started arbitrarily deleting votes to appease the vocal minority of the MJCJC.
If you don't want to know don't ask.

do you feel attacked, bro?
i am not saying i believe in the whole rating system. i dont put ratings on my own songs. if someone has a comment to make about my tune, leave me a comment. all i am saying is there are spineless people out there, who for whatever reason would rather bomb someones song than actually have the balls to leave thier comment... every time you leave a comment on these threads it is the same old smartass thing. you do not try to put yourself in someone esle's shoes, you do not try to be anything other than an ass.
was that personal enough for you?
you add nothing at all construstive to the thread other than how bored you are with it. dont post. dont tell the person who obviously needs some answers or simply to vent, to grow up or to get a thicker skin, add something worth reading.
i think you are a descent musician. and probably under all that ego, a good dude. but this is a community. 99% of the people here support one another. let me tell you something, bro, it means alot. other sites do nothing but pan your shit all day about production, and all kinds of other issues, but here, even a guy who cannot play an instrument can get the encouragement he/she needs to be creative. CREATIVE. try being a little more human, and a lot less of a smartass.

I am glad to know I am not the only one to have experienced this phenomenon - and that the topic has provoked some heated discussion. Bottom lime: I think we all want some kind of feedback on our work - so if someone dissents from the majority opinion (the "MJCJC", so to speak) - well, I'd want to know his/her reasons. And in response to RAD's posts on this topic, yes I believe very much in the sense of community this site provides. We are here to support each other, help each other come closer to fulfilling his/her potential as an artist - so, yes, we want feedback, not random bombings. I'm not talking about hurt feelings here, I am talking about community, and the aesthetic/spirit behind Macjams as a collective entity.

If all your song' scores are sitting at an average of 7 or higher you should be signed to a major label with a back catalogue of at least 3 albums.
Honestly, if you were to listen to your favourite album and critique each song would they all be 7 or higher? The ones on that album that you feel don't make the cut are the ones you need to be comparing your shit to. Chances are your tracks don't come close - so where does this leave you? What should be an appropriate score for your track that doesn't compare to even the shittiest track on your favourite album?
I find too many people here think they are "the shit" when in actuality all they are is shit.

hey ego - great response. To some extent I do agree with NOW's point of view - think of how our work would measure up in the real world - where albums by established commercial artists get panned by critics left and right. But does Britney get all bent out of shape? She's still selling records. No ego no hassle - I don't understand, however, the aggressively bellicose tone that is becoming evident in this thread. There is some involved discourse- but let's please refrain from the negativity. This was not meant to be a bash session - just a forum for sharing one's experience with the voting s*** phenomenon.
