A Death in the Macjams Family
Saturday, November 10 2007 @ 02:11 PM CST
Hello, I'm logged into my son's account now to inform you all that he's died. He talked often about his music; it was an integral part of his daily activities, and one of the things he did most often with friends. He told me about this account, and used to send me e-mails linking to his latest song or composition. He was a trooper and kept recording even when he knew the end was near, mocking his impending death in such songs as "I Have Leukemia." He was a musical chameleon and a lover of all types of music; he'd talk about Brian Wilson, Tupac Shakur, Bach, and Steven Reich in the same sentence and not even think twice about it. He left many many garageband files(some of which I'm not sure were finished.) And after a lot of thinking and talking it over in my head, his love of Tupac Shakur and Elliott Smith makes it seem like I should post these unfinished pieces for the world to see. I'm sure that's what he would've wanted. I miss him very much, and made the first memorial post today of a song who's garageband file was entitled "Funky Me." This is a sad day for me and a sad day for music, but Robert would be glad to see that things kept going in his wake.

I only occasionally came across Robert's music, but am deeply saddened to read your post nonetheless. Like any community, death is a part of life, and so far we have (to my knowledge at lest) had very limited experience of a member's death in the MJ community.
I guess this is one of the points where real life and virtual life intersect. Please accept my deepest condolences. Regards, Neil News Is Gonna Break - just do it. |

I am so saddened reading your post about your son's death. So difficult... especially for a parent. Your love for him is evident from your post, and the fact that you are publishing other songs of his here at MacJams speaks volumes.
May you and your family find comfort and encouragement in the days and weeks ahead. God bless. Jack |

I'm here to offer condolences, as well and also to express my hope that you'll continue to post Robert's music when you feel able. I just spent the last little while listening to songs on his page and really loved them. He was a really talented musician and a very obviously smart, funny guy, too. I'm sad that I didn't get to know him while he was alive, but grateful that his music is still here. I hope it's a comfort to you to know that this part of him lives on.
Truly, I'm so very sorry. Lisa |
