Re:telephone

cos its 'amazing'? my use of that word in relation to the video seems to have been somewhat of an initial catalyst - but i think it goes beyond that too - partly due to the content of the video, partly due to the fact that its lady gaga, partly due to the fact that the references in the video just dont resonate with a lot of people here (hence the 'it's a pile of shit' comments or certain people are unable to see beyond the surface level of whats being presented and are not tuned in to the way in which the language of various pop cultural references are being manipulated and played with quite often in a very humorous and clever way, even to the extent in which product placement is occurring) No doubt that this is a provocative video in some respects, but that is obviously intentional. Looking beyond that, I think this video is as clever and amazing as many of the other milestone videos over the last few decades (anything from michael jackson's thriller to aphex twin's windowlicker and many many more) I agree Eric, that the response to this thread has been interesting I recently posted a Kink's video from 1966 on facebook of them singing 'sunny afternoon' while standing in a snowy field That video is also 'amazing'...I wonder if my use of that word would have been questioned as much if I had posted that video here instead? :-) |

There's only one way to do this, and the immortal Wendy O did it in 1984.
Sorry, Gaga, but your video was a snoooooOOOOOOooozer compared to this. Tongue just enough in cheek to suggest it's a joke, more than enough snarl to suggest it isn't, and real, rock-driven sexual energy to set 20-year old artiste students without a clue off wandering the big city late at night, hung over from very cheap wine, riding empty subways and wondering if maybe.... just maybe.... the answer to life, the universe and all things immortal is a hurricane-rockin' woman in leather chaps. And if the question still stands twenty-six years later... that's rock and roll. ![]() |

Nah, important viewpoints like this can fit into any thread. Good observation Brother Andy! "Super" really did not have the durability of some of the other buzz words (in fact, I think this was the one used commonly during my teenage years) and the usage died out long before it should have (it was quickly supplanted by the equally short-lived "wicked"). Currently, the one driving me up the wall is "like". I don't have to give an example: just sit in front of any 9-year to 43-year-old on the bus and between the time you get on and the time you get off, you will have heard it used some 1.7 million times. That just HAS to go! Aieeeeeeee! "Where phones and music somehow are somehow related" |

I think the word "super" is still popular in the surfing scene.... As are many words which are smirked at by the rest of society. Gnarly and stoked are my favourites however if you combine super and stoked you get something truly beautiful.
Anyhoo, I just forked out £1.89 for this video (don't have the patience to find a free streaming one) due to the hype this thread has created. I'll let you know if I think it's um, like, amazing laterz. |

Ok, that's £1.89 and 10 minutes I'll never get back but hey I enjoyed it. That's probably the first music video I've watched in about 5 years and although I'm not planning on rethinking my MTV boycott I'm glad I watched it. It was entertaining, well done and some of the visual tricks appealed to me and by that I don't mean the visual trick of women dancing in their skimpies.
Songs pretty catch too! I liked it, however my girlfiend DID think it was amazing but then she is a fan of sex in the city so I'd take that opinion with a pinch of salt. Gaga sure sings better than she acts though. |

I've learned 1 very important thing from this video...
I will never have Beyonce in a video with me if I want to look good at what I do... Wow, what a talent. Totally shows up Lady GaGa. |
