Funcadelic Maggot Brain tone with GarageBand
Tuesday, August 16 2011 @ 01:31 AM CDT

Hellow. I'm trying and playing with the effects, and I just can't reach that nice tone used in funcadelic maggot brain
Especially the wah pedal, which in garage band does not really sound like the wah pedal should... maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Can someone give me some tips? Thanks.

Research Eddie Hazel. Get some tips watching the versions on youtube. Depending on what night you saw the Band MB sounded different. The studio version is inferior to many of the live performances. My favorite boot is the one where Hazel created a groove that would appear later to become Joe Walsh's Rocky Mountain Way... Use Hendrix' Band of Gypsies gear, you will be close enough.

Eddie also used a phaser and lots of delay, and a fuzz pedal (but not too over the top with the fuzz). when I use the wah with logic, I set it up so that I can use a knob or a slider to activate the wah (sounds better than when I draw it in). there's got to be a way in GB that you can assign automation to a knob on your keyboard or whatever you have. if not possible, try using the pencil tool instead of clicking in dots and straight lines on your automation tracks; that way it's a little more "not so perfect."

oh, try changing the order of your effects too. I might try this order:
guitar, phaser, wah, delay, amp.

Here's a link to a forum on guitargeek.com

The site has awesome pedal layout diagrams for many players, but not Eddie Hazel.

Sorry about the super irrelevant message, but this is quite interesting, I was just listening to this song when I saw this thread title. This song, of all the songs in the world.
