JP4 Revealed Pt 1
Saturday, March 15 2008 @ 02:04 AM CDT
Well, then... at 2am I got this crazy notion that some of you may want to know... and see... some "tips" for using JamPack 4 - Symphony Orchestra... If you can bear hearing CSI: Miami in the background... I think this little video may enlighten you. I plan on doing this a bit more rehearsed, and less "on the fly" but sometimes I am done with an idea before the process is defined. I hope you like...
The following video clip demonstrates use of the "modulation wheel" of a keyboard controller to unlock the secrets embedded in the Orchestral String Sections within JamPack 4. Please excuse the quality... it was very late. The Mod wheel, foot pedal and pitchbend wheel control a lot of different functionality within many of the JamPack instruments... and many "Section" instruments have hidden vibrato, staccato, trills, tremelos, etc. Each string, woodwind and horn section... even the timps... have several features unknown to many. All of the curves can be manually placed even if you don't have a keyboard... by doing so in the Track Editor using the Pencil Tool. PS - The audio track with the strings is a GarageBand track recorded simultaneously with the video which includes all the "curves" (and mistakes) I mentioned. Am I being redundant? Or am I repeating myself too much? Did I mention CSI: Miami? |

NIfty! I don't have a controller, but I think I can access expression through the exsp24 in Logic. I'll have to give it a look next time I'm in the app.
Thanks Al... very illuminating demo! |

By revealing the curves in the GB "Track Editor" you can further adjust to the desired effect using the Pencil Tool after the fact. |

Great idea!
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what's a sound plus a motion picture and GB track? Thanks for taking the time to do this. |

Alimar, this is GREAT! I'm in no hurry to move beyond GB, and you just demonstrated that I still have a LOT to learn there. I've only just been vaguely understanding modulation w/in the GB editor, but didn't have a clue how it might apply on my M-audio 61es - but you just showed me. Even better, it was great to hear your voice! And I thought your background music perfectly suited the mood! More please!
