Reverb/Delay
Friday, August 05 2011 @ 06:37 PM CDT

I'm currently using a Zoom GFX-1 with an expression pedal for wah, looped through my amp... I use only four patches for the four foot switches on the Zoom, Delay, Reverb, Tremolo and wah. Keeping it easy, the rest I leave up to the amp. I'm thinking about making some changes... run reverb/delay through the loop and a crybaby through the input. My amp doesn't have reverb or delay. I would like some input on a reverb and delay pedal or a reverb/delay pedal. I've been eying the the Boss FRV-1 '63 Fender Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal and really have no idea on a delay. I don't want any thing overwhelming... I just like a little slap back. As far as the reverb... I'm just looking for something to compliment the amp since it came without it.

Take a look at the Tech 21 boost DLA and RVB. I have a Line 6 DL4 and love it, may be more than you want. There's a lot out there. Go with a store with a good return policy.

. Thanks for the info.... I'll check it out. Do you know of any one who has installed a Spring Reverb Tank? It looks real simple.

I too would suggest a look at the DL4 since it will emulate digital, analog, and tape delay units. The Line 6 Echo Park may offer similar features in a less expensive unit with a smaller footprint.

Peace be with my friend Jerry!

Thanks for the link, I noticed the reverb pedal claims to emulate a 63 Fender Spring Reverb. I'll have to check it out.

I have a DL4 as well, and love it. The only problem I've ever had with it, is that instead of an honest to goodness on/off pedal switch, Line 6 uses these weird spring loaded depressor thingamabobbers. If you use the buttons a lot eventually they'll stop working consistently, but the good news is that you can replace them with regular stomp box switches if you're not shy with a soldering iron.

I've been looking at this mod for mine:

I'm in the same boat as you with reverb. I've switched from my 5150 being my daily amp (which it has decent reverb) back to my Bassman (which of course doesn't have reverb). I'm interested in hearing the suggestions you get.

Just one thought - if you're using amp distortion, then reverb in particular, but echo as well, ain't gonna work as nicely as you might want.

I want to use a tad delay when I turn up the gain

You might have a little trouble if you want to use it clean as well - compression involved in distortion will bring up the level of delay. Also, delay before gain means that as the delay is (usually) not at the same level as the main signal, it will sound cleaner than the original signal, which can be a bit weird. Get one of the digi delays that offer a fair few variations, you'll find something that works.

Also, you might want to look at the Line 6 M3, which gives you pretty much all of Line 6's effects one at a time. If you don't want reverb and delay together, you're covered for just about any situation, with a bunch of toys extra to just have fun with.

I recently got the TC Electronics Flashback and have been finding it really flexible and useful with great sound qualities from slapback echo to tape delay. There are some good youtube demoes and here's a link to their site.
