How to turn midi into audiofiles
Wednesday, August 08 2012 @ 06:13 AM CDT
Hi everyone
Is it possible when using a software pug in such as ez drummer, to record each drum separately and then turn those midi tracks into audio tracks for further mixing ? In studio 1 it's called exploding to tracks. Then the midi track is duplicated and the result is audio. Is this possible in garageband. I've been using gb for a few years now but until recently I never messed with the drums in any way other than putting some mastering effect on everything on the drum track. But now I want the ability to eq for instance the snare in a different way from the bass drum. Thanks Geiri |

Hi
It should be quite easy. Are you playing the drum parts via a midi keyboard or dragging ez drummer loops into Garageband? If you are playing them via MIDI then I usually assign one track to EZ drummer, loop section, then put in the hi hat sections, then duplicate track and record snare and kick drum. Then I duplicate again and duplicate the snare and kick drum section and delete the kicks from the snare and then delete the snare from the kicks. So then I've got Trk 1 Hi Hats Trk 2 Snare Trk 3 Kick Drum Then I can apply effects to each track separately. If you are dragging the loops in from EZ drummer then you should be able to do a similar thing. Duplicate a load of tracks and then copy and separate each part then. Hope that is of some help |

Hi kingbee and thank you.
This makes a lot of sense I've been overthinking this so I didn't see your proposal as a solution. I will try this next time I record something. And I usually just drag the loops in there and nudge them around to my liking. Thanks for the fast response. Geiri |

I've just dragged a loop from ez drummer into GB and separated the hi hat, snare and bass drum onto their own track.
If you send me a private message via my page ( it's the little envelope symbol under my profile photo) and let me know your e-mail address I can send you the GB file so you can see what it looks like...that's if you haven't sussed it out already cheers |
