Woodstock was August 15 to August 18, 1969. |
I was there - I was 15. What were my parents thinking?
I was with my 21 year old brother. I'm sure that made them feel a whole lot better

Wow! Kevin, that must have been a transformative experience for a 15-year-old. What are your most vivid memories of that experience?

I've had plenty of years to think about that - thanks for asking. What made the biggest impression on me was not the music - though I got to hear some very fine acts in the two days I was there (we left when the mud and lack of food and services became untenable to some in our party. I was with by brother - his recent bride and several other friends).
It was The Hog Farm commune and kitchen setup in the woods that fed and enlightened me to their scene that made the biggest impression. If I met Wavy Gravy I wouldn't have known it at the time - but the food, support and positive energy they provided was pretty revelatory to this 15 year old. The naked little kids running around and giant tree swings were great too. It was also cool to be accepted as an equal at that age. The scene respected and embraced youth in a way that I think was different than before. I might be wrong about that. Being the youngest of three I was often the youngest person in the room.

I do believe when people decide to think positive , they will force
the positivity . this is what made Woodstock so special
and Altamont is the negative answer to it .
