Need Logic Help
Sunday, February 12 2012 @ 03:56 PM CST
Which of these settings do I use for bouncing a MONO VOCAL?
WHEN DO THE OTHERS COME INTO PLAY? (as I've been using this program since 2006, seems like a good time to finally ask!) http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/acozean/music/Picture12.png http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/acozean/music/Picture11.png http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/acozean/music/Picture10.png http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/acozean/music/Picture9.png |

Anne, I'm by no means a Logic expert, but I am trying to understand. This looks odd to me as it is listing "Output 1-2" and/or "Output 3-4". My projects by default always have the output as "Output" and are labeled "Stereo Out" just above the "Off" button on the output slider. Could it be that you are opening some kind of special project type? The actual audio channel mixer setting is not illustrated in your photos, is it? I would typically use that to set the output to stereo out (instead of mono) and then pan the mono material back to center. Am I missing the boat completely here? It also appears to me that I might have a different version of Logic. I hope this gets us moving in the right direction.

Steve - thanks for checking it out my distress flare. 8)
My musical guru set this up for me back in 2006, and this is the template he left me. He changed the output settings from 1-2/3-4 to 1-2/1-2, haven't a clue why, and just left the bottom text as it originally (to CONFUSE everyone who reads this!) He's a pretty good studio engineer (what do i know???) My original question was: does one select ONE CHANNEL only when bouncing a centered mono track? And YOU are saying you would bounce that track STEREO with both channels highlighted? Jeez, a little knowledge has definitely set me back! 8) |

Hi Anne & Steve,
Maybe the easy way to do this is to export the track rather than bounce it?

Anne,
Pictures 11 & 12 show the 'mono' track setting symbol (that full circle icon in the lower left), and the other two show an overlapping double circle, which is the 'stereo' track setting. It looks like your default output is "3-4". Without seeing what is on the tracks in question, I think the easiest way to get your mono track is to select the mono track setting as in pictures 11 & 12, and click the solo button ("S") for the track(s) you want in mono and then bounce as usual. Sunday, February 12 2012 @ 07:42 PM CST Export is in the FILE menu. I've just recently started to use it more. Not at all sure that it addresses your problem though ![]() SJ's advice seems pretty spot on to me. Cheers, N News Is Gonna Break - just do it. |

Guys - I appreciate all your help - thanks so much.
SJ - thanks for breaking it down. I'm not sure why I had to question my standard procedure, then publicly declare my stubborn commitment to remaining ignorant by the topic WITH NO EDIT BUTTON. 8( Thanks for your time. |
