maybe the Woodstock challenge idea will bring out some participation
also i saw a CBGB challenge idea proposed these challenges could revitalize things here, at least briefly my initial post was just to show real data that supports a comment that things seem to have slowed down here. it's not the first time this suspicion has been discussed. MJ really was much more active a couple of years ago my theory about the downturn is that it's not so much about the culture here, but rather that there are many more internet distractions nowadays, like Facebook or Minecraft(!), and also, as has been said, the economy has reduced leisure time for many folks previously active here, or the ability to afford internet access/computers/studio equipment. i am hopeful that will turn around in the future as Karen pointed out, each one of us is here for our own reasons. and i think you get out of this site what you put into it the whole "clique" thing is probably true, but so what? that's just human nature. to me, that demonstrates that MJ is a rich social environment, not some artificial over-constrained wasteland. we don't all have to get along with everyone here, or have to interact with everyone. sounds like real-life to me... personally, i've been busy doing other things that have consumed my "music cycles" and reduced my song submission rate here, and my participation level. i've been doing things like getting professional voice lessons (and practicing), and writing music for movie projects. and some music software projects that kinda went down a blackhole. those have certainly cut back my MJ activity quite a bit. party on dudes be excellent to each other |

I don't know, man. Who exactly is downloading them? I mean, I also see some of my songs have 100's of downloads. Is it really MJer's? Or is it some guy in an little office somewhere in China and other lands whose job it is to get every source of music possible on the net for its potential value, hoping one of a thousand pan out to be something and then steal the rights? lol I would love it to be true, but I don't believe hundreds of "people" have really downloaded my songs. Maybe it's just some sort of automated system after all. LL |

Dave, Right now while I type this there are 65 visitors here. I check in to Mj several times a day. I'm fortunate to have consistent internet access at home and work. I've seen that visitor numbers often range between 50 and 100. I also looked back at some of your earlier tracks and saw what Tim did (recent plays and near or more than 100 downloads). Why is it so hard to believe visitors are finding your music, enjoying it, and choosing to download? I know I myself have downloaded several of your songs. Peace be with my friend Jerry! |

I used to think that cliques were a problem. I don't have the energy to be that involved. But it is a sign of life. As far as I can tell, ANYONE who has the time and inclination is invite to be in the "MacJams Elite Clique." When a very social core group of members is apparent, it brings in new members, seeing the vitality of the site.
I think, in a very general sense, that cliques are useful. They steer the site in many ways. As time changes, groups evolve or phase into new groups. This revitalizes the site. Arguments occur. Members leave, some stay. It's like getting an infection. If the body survives, it may be stronger. A lot depends on the core of the site. |

For clarity's sake, I was not referring in any way to cliques. That is a word with a lot of baggage at this point, lol.
