I hesitate to even say this because I know the dedicated MJ members here may take offense but what the hay. I think it has become a back slapper website for musicians. No matter what song is posted, it is reviewed like it is a classic. While it feels great initially, it gets pointless after a while.
I do get the desire to give positive reinforcement, but it becomes meaningless when everyone gets kudos regardless of what they post. Just my 2 cents. I appreciate VicDiesel critiquing my mix or some aspect of my song 100 times more than someone going "great job". This site has become "you give me a good comment and I will give you a good comment". Not very validating once people catch on to it. I may be completely off base, sorry in advance. I know the MJ militia is coming for me now, I am braced for impact. |

no offense taken, i just think this mindset is a little jaded. the "quid pro quo" commenting behavior you've described does exist in my opinion, i'll even admit that i've engaged in this behavior early on in my MJ experience. but it didn't take long to come to an understanding of how hollow a compliment feels when it is offered or received with an ulterior motive. i vowed to never do that to anyone. now, when i leave a comment on a song, it is because i sincerely like it. period. enough of us have been around the woodshed (hmm.. is that even a saying...) long enough to know the insincere strategy of gaining goodwill doesn't work over the long haul. many, like myself, are playing the long game here. sincerity is the only thing that is sustainable. |

It's undeniable what crissew mentioned. Also, nothing really happens to the songs after a week or so. They're lost in oblivion. A lot of you are concerned about technical issues, but I'm more concerned about the content. My older songs are better that my newer ones, but the production might be a bit better. Maybe a macjams make-over is in order? Maybe a little change? Bringing back some old members, but how? I don't know. LL |

I think your right but up to a point, this is a give and take sight. Most people on here are not pros . I have respect for anyone who posts a song on MJ's . Sure it can seem that its a pat on the back but the 10 to 12 people who comment on my songs I feel they are sincere, your music to me always has a great mix and the musicianship is spot on, but thats just my opinion, what do I know Im not a pro and I dont strive to be one Maybe what MJ needs is a ambassador, someone who is neutral who can give out critiques without seeking anything in return I think Ichabod Crane did that at one time via Forum Post Anyway as far as the MJ militia it would seem that that is a prejudged anticipation for me Mj is a place for me to deposit my creative impulses, I would think you would need to evaluate your reasons for being here, if its to be critiqued then saying something in your song description it would give you the responses your looking for, just my opinion |

I've been here 16 months ... most MJr's have been very supportive but I do have to agree with Crissew's comment. When I joined up I had just discovered Garageband even though I had a mac for years I never paid any attention to it. Then one day I opened it up and I was hooked! All these years of playing in part time bands and making my own music could be recorded in my man cave all myself! However, I needed to learn how to use and mix and make good recordings. After posting a couple of tunes as experiments on MJ, I started to get real helpful critiques from people like Hackney and Juguma and Drakonis and Vic ... I could go on. I think maybe you have to ask for criticism I don't know ... but at the start this is how I learned and all the tips from these people really helped. Every song is a learning experience and there is a ton of knowledge out there and I would like to pick everyones brain about how they got such clear crisp vocals or that big wide sounding mix ..... anyway. I'm babbling.
I felt a real buzz a year ago on this sight and now I have to agree with egobandit ... tumbleweed .... |

Icomps is the same way with comment tit for tat etc too, I wonder if they are experiencing a slow down as well. The economy seems to have slowed a lot of things down.
I think having an option for anonymous comments on MJ would free people up on what comments they give. Slicethepie was like that and it really gave me great feedback on my music. Then they bolluxed it all up trying to charge for everything, lol. MJ is pretty darn good as it is though; so it isn't like I am complaining, just making suggestions. |
