Being a long time fan of Clapton going back to the Yardbirds. I thought I would offer my opinion on this Long Train Running Post. Eric has had a remarkable career. Yeah he's had some clunkers. I liked Tears In Heaven. I thought it was heartfelt and sincere. I could have done without Reggae Eric. " I Shot The Sheriff ", or Rock N Roll Heart, Most of 461 Ocean Blvd. To me Eric at his core is a Bluesman. He either embraces that and goes with it or he rebels agains it and tries to be a folkie, or jazzer or play standards and this to me is when he comes up short. The whole guitar hero thing is overblown. I have a video of a documentary and the interviewer asks Clapton about the Clapton Is God graffetti so prevelant in London in the 60s. He said there was a picture of it on a wall with a dog peeing on it and he thought that said it all. He never considered himself some " God " of electric guitar. That was put on him by fans and the media. I think it's remarable that he's still around being talked about and trashed. So many artists from the 60s are long forgotten or dead. Theres an old saying " Live Hard Die Young and Leave A Good Looking Corpse " Players like Duane Allman and Stevie Ray Vaughan left us too soon. I'm sure if they were still around today somebody would be posting a thread about how bad they are now and they aren't what they were when they were playing with the Allmans or Double Trouble. I'm 54 years old. You don't have the same fire and energy as you did when you were 25. Erics place in the world is secure. His music and memory will be around when we are all long gone. A hundred years from now when the hair bands of the 80s are some minor question in a Trivia Game. People will still know who Eric Clapton was.

As usual you're talking bollocks! If it's a farting in tune competition you're after... bring it on! I can fart a tune better than Clapton in my sleep (but the doctor says it's a simple procedure to rectify).

Crepitation without trepidation, eh? It sounds to me like both of you are talking out of your assets. Give your best sphincter songs a public airing. I will be holding my breath... and my nose. Mr. Green

I've made out to Eric Clapton before...
Thanks E.C. Oops!

Now that I've lost everything to you, you say you want to find something new, and it's breaking my heart you're leaving... Baby I'm grieving

Anyone else think eric clapton is a pathetic excuse for a guitar hero only used by people who know nothing about guitar in discussions. For godsakes... he's done absolutely nothing since he left cream. Just what has he contributed to the world of guitar? Just a load of cover versions and a few pop tunes. Discuss...

...boy, this should be interesting. Smile

You had to bring up this thread again... didn't ya.

What has Eric contributed to the world of guitar?

... more than enough.

long live the Eric Clapton thread!
