I agree that he is not a guitar hero. He is a very good musician and to save you time looking it up in the dictionary that means he writes good songs, sings nicely and plays the guitar that is appropriate for the tune.

I may just have to gouge my eardrums out if I ever hear that insipid "Tears in Heaven" crap ever again. That tripe's worse than "Teen Angel". However you feel about EC's morality for pushing (or allowing to be pushed) that turd as a hit single, it's just a cheesy corndog of a song. Borderline "Billy, Don't Be a Hero" territory.

God forbid the guy write a song for a lost member of his family. Rolling Eyes

I don't know, Troy, most of the time you are too much of a "cranky cynic". There is a fine line between being a cynic and being a Complete Ass. Be careful.

If i used the same logic as others in this discussion opinions can only be held if I have actually achieved something of greater value than that of the subject matter. So, all those people who harbour opinions on well known political leaders (bush!!!!???) have no right to hold or express these opinions unless thet have achieved something of note in the wolrd of politics.

I don't subscribe to this way of thinking.

Clapton is overrated... that's my opinion.

I am so sorry!!, i didnt know there was a comment police.... gestapoing the forum posts...Oh my bad again, it was also u that started this off-sense topic, no?
Plus I want to thank!!! u for relayin the idea to me given to u by others on this forum post..."U shouldnt talk because you are who?" wow... great way to interact with one another...

So ur implyin that u "achieved something of greater value than that of the subject matter." and thats why u have the right to post this and dog my funny post by a worlds most publicly noticed man that have started a senseless war when u get tilted a little bit?
i THINK NOT. U are OVERRATED, on a website, wow, go figure, clap clappidy clap for havin so much egocentrism...Puff...

I have a VERY BIG RIGHT to express myself or 'harbour opinions', its in the amendment. We would not have the guy as a president anyway if everyone used their rights instead of being ignorant, but why would it matter to u that 50,000 civilian Iraqis died since the start of the war when u can jam along and critisize Eric Clapton, a musician, a good one at that...

U my friend 'do subscribe to this way of thinkin' but u do it in a sneaky manner...

What a totally asinine thing to say! Music is a way to express emotion and grief, last time I checked, was an emotion. Gouge your ears out if you don't like someone singing a sincere, emotional song. Do you really think it's a bad song or are you upset that it was marketed? Music isn't all about technical perfection, Troy.

I'm guessing you a: don't have children b: have never lost someone close to you or c: aren't familiar with the story of Clapton losing his young child. Because as cynical and harsh as you seem to be I don't really believe you are that insensitive to compare this song to some of the cheesy "Death" songs of the 60's.

I've worn EC's shoes for a moment in time and can tell you the pain he was going through at that time was indescribable and immeasurable. Writing and sharing that song had more healing power than you can possibly imagine. Don't believe me- Angel

Wow! Misunderstanding or what!!!??

I'm sorry 12m if you thought I was talking about you. Pixiemaster wrote;

'But when you've influenced or touched as many people, or written at least ONE classic (Clapton has written or co-written several), then come back and spout'

and Ronnie wrote;

'When Eric Claptons name was mentioned, NOBODY said WHO is Eric Clapton?? Right. Now tell me. Do you think anyone knows YOUR name??'

and rcandrews wrote;

'talkin out y'alls butt cuz yo head is full of yo'sef. but i fo got y'all got how many records n how many labels at your beckon call?'

i would argue these comments are suggesting to me that my opinion is worthless because i have not achieved what eric clapton has. hence i shouldn't extoll my opinions (if i were allowed to harbour them) on eric clapton,

I'm all for opinions I started this forum because I had one in the first place.
People response to my opinion has generally been 'he's a legend so shut up, he sold more records than you so shut up, he's better than you ever will be so shut up. Good reposts i'll admit... but i still think he's overated.

I'm all for opinions and I've enjoyed reading some people's here in these forums. hell, what would a forum be without opinions. But to be told my opinion is meanigless on the grounds listed above is pathetic. That's why i made the comparison to people's opinions on politics. Just to illustrate. As a sidenote I didn't express any opinions of Bush... they're irellevant anyway.

Opinion anybody?

Sorry hahaha, and both in a sarcastic and in a sincere way, but that doesnt make sense when u look at the quote above, when no single person here talked about Bush in this form. Bush is mentioned on a totally separate and non-connected thread... Contradicting ur point second time.

But i am kinda sorry it had to come this far, hoping this is it...

I was using Ronnie's signatures as my Bush reference point.
