the truth about most artists ;)
Tuesday, June 21 2011 @ 12:23 PM CDT

They often say they want honest feedback but it's probably best if you don't give it to them because if you're about networking your music in any way, any comment that isn't 100% positive will usually turn them off. Personally I still end up saying what I think because it's hard for me to just post Great song, Wonderful yada yada so it's self-destructive the more I get involved in these sites, then I usually just fade out and resolve to be relentlessly positive with the next site I join.

A broad statement... but mostly true. Me, personally, I cannot learn this stuff unless somebody points out what I did wrong, so ALWAYS feel free to offer *me* constructive and critical feedback, I eat it for lunch and use it!

It's not what you say but how you say it maybe. I can always find something good to comment on. Everyone has particular skills and some have weaknesses that are forgivable if the overall effort and talent is there.

Just stay polite, and if you don't like something be constructive about what and why you don't like. People don't seem to mind much if I comment along those lines.

Well what you're saying there, Serena, more or less is say something positive and stay away from the negative, which was pretty much what I was saying. Doesn't it seem like kind of a shallow exercise to only play the upbeats and eliminate all the downbeats ?

No FT because sometimes you may not be qualified to be constructive in certain areas - e.g. I can't comment on technical deficiencies but I can say if they affected my listening experience. Being subjective in a negative way is not what people want, that doesn't help.

You don't think they want to know your real reaction to the song then ?

How does it help anyone to know that you have different taste to them ?
Often people will ask if there are particular areas you can help with.

In any corner of this cyber world there s a heart willing to share and some minds and passions put on into anything called a song ...
-for encouragement
-for wasting time
-for making connection with the outer world
-for real devotion for growing bigger into a next phase in this field of music and recordings
-for abroad the publicity and spread the word about their music

and many other reasons

I thought all the above need encouragement before anything if they
never asked for constructive criticism ..many do mention the need
for such on their songs descriptions ,sometimes they are so lucky
to have the right people to give them what they want sometimes
nobody care ..

the truth about any artists is they deserve to be encouraged
just for the sake of it ...

Hearing a critic always nervous moment yet when its honest
definitely it will open a new door

my 52 cents
sorry

Well some of the joy of participating on sites like these is when someone does fully appreciate your work, and that's really hard to tell when kid gloves are out. If people do give their subjective opinions, it's like opening a present, you want to know if your song moved them.
