Re:the truth about most artists ;)

Correctomundo, MJK and let me add, I missed this place because of the people. I rarely critique and feel a bit uncomfortable when I do. If I listened and liked it, I fav and comment. If I didn't like it, I step out of the room, quietly and close the door. If I like the artist, I have fun with the comment in the hopes that he or she will enjoy it.

While I agree with this, there are some cases where live performance is not an option for some people. Regardless of the feedback potential of live performance for developing songs, when it comes to recording, mixing and mastering, performing live is of no use, and those technical aspects are a big part of what people on this site are dealing with. For the record, when I post a song to MacJams, my feedback critique level is always set to 'sock it to me'. |

I was just having this same thought. Honesty is great, but there are critics out there who crossover into opinion politics, where they frame their comments on what they deem as absolute truth. These kind of critiques can be annoying because you need to accept their personal music paradigms in order to extract anything useful out of the comments. It's like here, I'm trying to help you but first you must accept all my rules and peccadilloes. So don't get me wrong, when I say honesty I'm not talking about honest bullying, rather I just think the best environment for reviews is one where the listeners don't crush their raw opinions with a happy/positivity filter before emitting.

yes, so some people don't like to be critiqued and others very much do. some people aren't very helpful with their feedback and others are. some people just like to listen and leave positive/supportive comments, and others think that's a waste of time. some people are here to learn, others are here just to enjoy the music, and everything in between. you cannot make accurate generalizations about such a huge and diverse group of people. folks are here for all kinds of different reasons and participate in a wide variety of ways. just be here for whatever YOUR reasons are, participate the way that best works for YOU, be respectful of others, and try to have a little fun.

When they become musical some people become verrry serrrrious and look down their noses at those who are ecstatic to be simply able to coax a note or even a whole tune out of an instrument.and you can bash me as much as you like........positively. Jarvoid I picked up the ukulele at about 12 years of age and picked up the piano at about the same time. The ukulele is a far smaller instrument and did not give me a hernia. |

Thanks Tim, I love ya bro!
You can buy plots in Candyland too. You could be buried next to the road that goes by the Big Rock Candy Mountain. Imagine, you and eternity together, contemplating sugar. You could comment with equal authority on matters of non-objective reality with those fortunate enough to be dead within shouting distance to you. And when the rains came heavy, like in a hurricane steered by a pol, the water table would exceed the sea level and your concrete encased coffin would rise from the grave... floating your boat! Make ya wanna burst into "Singing In The Rain"? I got the brochure... Daug |
