"Lefties/Righties". The more we continue to use those terms, the less will get done. Both parties were complicit in the mess we're in, today.

I know what you mean. I was watching Leno last night and he was popping off a joke blaming the current president for jobs shipped overseas.

Wanted to correct any misreading into my quote above. I hate to be pigeonholed into a 'side'. My comment was directed at people who use this raid as an excuse to hold some political indignation over things unrelated. This news is being discussed in my Facebook world as well. Someone actually had the class to call this "stupid hippy liberal crap" and use words like "Obama" "Jobs" "Americans". If i misread the intent of Harlod's and Feel's comments, then my bad. It's about a poorly run company engaging in shady business practices, and I'm frustrated about people who try to make everything about politics. If people think it's an attack on the music industry it's not. Taylor and Martin seem to manage to source sustainably harvested timber, and therefore, are not raided by the Federal government. |

my input was based on a radio interview I had heard re: the event. So must admit that I am more sympathetic to Gibson as opposed to career lawyers. (and am admitting I am biased against as well not hearing an interview from their viewpoint) The entire raid (if it in truth will be found that it is as Gibson has characterized it) has implications that has crossed into other areas of American business. A symptom already emerged. Foments lack of trust for the most part. If the law is not written properly then change it at the legislative level.

I'm a bit biased too. I have a hard time believing anything Gibson's side of the story because I worked for them and in that process my love for their product was destroyed. I'm all too willing to jump in on a Gibson bashing session as they are not run by music lovers just a failing business cashing in on a memory. |

In the previous case, it doesn't appear to be the wood or the forests that anyone really cared about. Apparently, the law says if it's a finished product, it's OK to export. Cut the fret slots and inlays over there and you can have all you want. Is this really about forest conservation?
For the current case, which is what the original post was about, Gibson's side of the story is in the following articles (for those who care) and available in both mainstream flavors. The Gibson CEO is making some awfully bold statements, including claims that they have letters from the Indian government saying it's legal. If he's not telling the truth, he's going to an awful lot of trouble to look like a liar. My first reaction was also to jump on what appeared to be the evil, greedy capitalist, lol. But then I read a little more about it. The old rule of thumb "the truth is probably somewhere in between" may apply. And if that's the case, would that warrant a raid by feds? http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/02/smallbusiness/gibson_guitar/ http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/09/02/gibson-feds-want-guitar-woodwork-done-by-foreign-labor/ |

Ya.. I can see that happening. There was a time during the 80's when they were building mush that it would have been a really bad idea to buy one. Now the perception is that they have vastly improved. As I am researching this issue further, I am seeing that there have been some amendments to Lacey since 2009. Perhaps I have fired off a bit too soon. We shall see. and so it goes...... Music is the master link in the chain of the tribes of mankind! -SloParts and so it goes... |

Gibson is so overpriced I don't ever bother looking at them, same with Fender. For example, EVH just came out with a new guitar selling for 3 grand. In comparison, Gibson's recent piece of crap the Firebird X goes for $5,500. I wouldn't touch it or even look at it for that price.
As for "lefties leaving the economy alone" I guess that GOParty of Death idiot who said that is incapable of reviewing the last 30 years of repuke economic disasters and delusions including the always fraudulent "trickle down" and "deregulation". Stay dumb repukes, you deserve a life of stupidity. |

No offense taken. I can see how someone can be bitter about a previous employer. I have felt that way on occasion about an employer.
