Just seems to me Wall St isn't the place to be, place to be would be the place that has started all the bailouts, health care reform,,and this lovely economy and unemployment. Maybe Pennsylvania Av would be a better street?

We are in Washington also - as I'm sure you know. However, we are not just targeting the White House - this is not a partisan issue. Both sides of the aisle have a lot of explaining to do. I understand the point that you are making with your graphic and this point is made often. However - the reason the protest started at Wall St. was not to target corporations that make and profit from producing products - but to go after financial institutions that produce nothing but wealth accumulation through monetary transfers that are under taxed, under regulated, and at time unlawful. When the financial system collapsed the losses were socialized through bailouts - and then the later profits were privatized through record bonuses and repackaging of gains. The gap between the average worker and the highest paid financiers only grew wider in the last 4 years. The only issue I have with the corporations you list is their profit strategy of sending work off shore. But we are all guilty of wanting more goods at lower prices. That started in the Fifties with goods produced in Japan - then our manufacturing moved to China and Indonesia. It has taken this long to reach critical mass.
The two forces of lax financial oversight and the loss of American jobs has led to the place we are now. And you are right - Obama has a lot to answer for - along with the rest of the politicians who have been bought and sold through the system.
OWS is a human rights movement - not a political protest. The press has trouble understanding that - because it does not fit their need for polarized reporting. I have met many disillusioned conservative libertarians and a few former Tea Party members who sympathize with our concerns.
This Fox News article expresses the situation well.

I think you're right: the battle should be in front of the white house.

Agreed. But, as Harold said, that's up to a different geographically enhanced set of campers.

.....

I continue to give you lots of credit, Kevin, for the commitment you've shown and the intelligence of what you've written...Some commentary promotes deeper thought and feeling, and some just shuts down thinking altogether... You seem good at the former, both here and in the updates you've posted elsewhere...And you manage to be a gentleman about it, which for some strange reason matters to me...

Well...

If it was only going to be in one spot, I'd say the battle needs to be in front of the Capitol...

But I think the beauty of the way this movement has evolved is that it, like the problem, is everywhere... It seems to be popping up where people are feeling the hurt, and yet it's developing in a thoughtful and not rageful way...

Thanks Ed. I take my lead from you when it comes to being a gentleman.

i really share ed's sentiments here. kevin, your posts in this thread have been articulate, respectful, and genuinely thoughtful. it makes the sarcasm-saturated comments feel all the more small. your willingness to rise above that increases my already great respect for you.

oh, and thanks for the terrific song!
