Let's truly support each other and stop the hating!
Friday, May 04 2012 @ 07:56 AM CDT

I notice that some members listen to everyone around an artist and totally ignore certain artist. This trend is easily identifiable and says a lot about the dissent amongst some of us who don't even know each other. Those community members know who you are and are not really contributing to a healthy and growing family atmosphere. It s very obvious to me on my pieces! If any of you would like to know who I am and what I contribute to this community just read my post. And I believe if you're actively participating on this site constantly supporting one another you will get much more support and not be so obvious in your disdain for those you don't even know! I hope we can get past this childish and quite obvious disrespect for the members of this wonderful community! Yeah I said it!

TVRicky, this discussion has happened before and there are several threads discussing this matter of some being neglected. Though what you say happens, as far as some artist being not listened to, I don't think it's on purpose. Humans tend to gravitate towards the people they know or who have established a relationship. I know I've been guilty of this in the past, and it cetainly is not intentional. My suggestion for unknown artists is to hang out in the chat and expose yourself via comments and listening to others. Eventually one's traffic picks up. It's a big-ass world out there Smile

When I'm conscious about it, I often go to "THE LIST" and randomly pick out a tune from either the "Unhit picks" or the "Rate Me" and listen or comment on tune.

For those un-aware, "THE LIST" is hidden under the "More tab" above.

Here is "THE LIST"

I know who I am and you know who you are, but who and the hell do they think they are?

What Damien says is true. People do tend to gravitate to certain others. That is a given.

I also try to just break off and listen to some I'm not familiar with, but more times than not I am just so wrapped up with pending projects, I don't spend enough time commenting. I try.

This sort of payment commenting can be a lot of stress. So I myself don't pay a lot of attention to reaching to top of the list. It's nice when it happens, but it's not why I do it.

People who know me, know that I go out of my way in other ways for other artist. I do comment, and I've gotten tons of support. I appreciate that. There are many ways to support others. Not just the comment counter. That is way too much politics, and should not be your motivation. A lot of this is unavoidable. You are not going to change the world. You can only change yourself.

Hmmm...

It would be great if everyone commented on my songs - but I think that if I entertained such a notion, I would have set my expectations way too high and then would subsequently drown in my own stream of disappointment.

I'm willing to accept the fact that some people may not care at all for my music, or me as a person for that matter. I've certainly made mistakes and have not been able to reconcile differences with some others. I often still visit their song pages and comment if I like the music.

Hate is a very strong word; there may be some segregation or conflict amongst members here apparently due to differences in personality or opinion/beliefs, but I seldom feel any hate in the air..

I listen to a lot of music here and comment quite a bit. Sometimes I just don't like the music and don't comment. That's really ok.

I've even been asked not to leave any comments on a certain individual's song pages anymore if I didn't want to only say something positive and not express my opinion. That person even badgered me with PM's, falsely accusing me of deliberately insulting them even after I tried to explain the truth in my intent. They would not accept it. They even conveniently deleted my comment, un-fanned me on my home page, and stopped commenting on my songs from that point forward. Childish behavior? Perhaps...

Trust me, I got the hint loud and clear - so I do not visit their song pages any more.

There is a lot to be said for being good to one's self and one's use of time etc. Before you pay them, you gotta pay yourself. If it is super stressful or a waste of time when you deal with someone, then you are much better off paying attention to what makes you happy. It is far better to avoid these things than to do battle, and waste a lot of time. Time is something you cannot get back.

Being good to yourself is afterall a smart thing to do.

It's actually a positive. It's not about being negative to them. It's about being positive to yourself.

Nice points all around. I try to pick a random song from the recently submitted songs, listen to them, and comment if I have the time. I always try listen (and comment) to people's music who comment on mine. I like to make comments on people's songs when they have low comment counts.

Please check out my latest tune "How Can I Know?"

Feel is what music is made of for me and I am fortunate enough to get what I need to stay motivated and encouraged but to put politics aside there is an element that purposely ignores certain artist for whatever reason! I see many artist put songs up and never take the time to listen to others offerings if in fact you read the purpose of MJ you see an active member commitment in it's purpose. Those of us who are saying you don't need comments or encouragement are a strange breed indeed in the art world! Art is for the sake of others enjoying and feeling it! Isn't it?

My take on this is that everyone has their own mind to make up and I'm OK with that. We're not and never going to be 'one big happy family' because we're a normal functional family. Functional to some and disfunctional to others. That's how it is. Free will also comes into this, not dogma or anything else that any one person (including me) thinks we should have.

I love the variety of life seen through those interactions that happen and value everyone for having their opinion (or not). Even not having an opinion, in some cases, is an opinion, if you've been here long enough to know who, what and why. (Or think you know).

Hate to me seems to be too strong a word. Freedom of choice seems to be a less extremist point of view.

Hating is not really what it connotes in the lang of today. It is simply an expression used to denote certain negative vibes. Lighten up my man! This post is to try and generate positivity not argument and name calling!
