Two years ago Mjer Ridd Sorensen posted a lovely tune titled “These Odds.” Long story short, I covered it. The original mix was pretty flat and tinny, and there were a number of glitches in the guitar and bass tracks. Add to that a pretty pedestrian series of LOOPS for a drum track, and you can imagine my dissatisfaction!

Now along comes a new MJ cover challenge, and with it the opportunity for a partial re-do---and a complete remix---of Ridd’s beautiful song. Add to that Scott Fugate’s BRILLIANT drum track in place of my dull loops, and you can imagine my SATISFACTION!

Since I am outside the rules of the current Cover Challenge---specifically rule #2---I am releasing this cover both early and independent of said challenge. I do hope though that it will inspire the true participants of the challenge, if only a little...

I'm rather proud of this one, as it features what may well be my best lead-guitar and keyboard work.

Be well all!

Mike, rule #2 clearly states and I quote "2) ground up, no tracks from the artist!"
I must inform you that you have committed a grevious act of impropriety, hence therefore under my self appointed judicial authority, I hereby declare that a warrant be sent out for your immediate macjams house arrest! You are hereby sentenced to continue making more great music and it is strongly recommended by the macjams disciplinary committee that you consider doing another cover!
oh wait, this just in, the supreme macjams court has just ruled that rule #3 and I quote "have fun" supercedes rule #2 in the event that someone posts a cover early that bends the stringent rules under the guise of promoting said challenge, so, taking into consideration all of the facts and having weighed them carefully, I find you innocent of all charges and I thank you for lighting a fire for this challenge, as did the other cover challenge! macjams rules! Pun intended!

Can I play?

This is always been my most favorite event.

For 5 years now, MacJams artists are about the only musicians that matter to me..... oh yeah, the Captain and Tennille reunion was hot too.... muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes....

It wouldn't be a challenge without 5 extra arms!

I actually sat through this whole thing...mesmerized.

I've thought a bit about this but I hate to say it I must pull out of the challenges for the time being. There has been a ton going on in my life and now one of my best friends will be losing his father (a life long friend of mine as well) in a few short days. Add to that a busy time at work.

I apologize to everyone but musically right now I just don't have it goin on...

..... ok ... just a quick note... my chosen cover is coming together with a little help from some friends. What I really want to say is a big "THANKS" to JD for kicking this off. This process for me takes me back to "learning a tune" in the 70s with an original "garage band". LOL.... very cool so far !!

I have finally figured this out but now I have forgotten what to use it for.

I'm still waiting for an answer from my first choice cover but I'm afraid my artist may be awol. I even sent him a message on his myspace page of all places.

Time to look at a plan-B selection.
