Re:Cover Challenge

Just got the word from (((-- the artist --))) who graciously (and bravely) gave me the green light to go for it.

The rules say we can't identify the tune or the artist, and I agree - it adds to the surprise. But the rules didn't say anything about sneaking peeks at the song art....... Smile

I blanked out the original artist's name and song title, which will be restored when I post the tune in January. Let's have some fun!

Just to make it even more interesting (maybe just for me) - the song I'm going to cover hasn't been posted yet.
I'll wait to make my selection/request till the week before Christmas - from songs posted after December 1st.

Why?

Why not?

It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done.

I've been away for a while, busy with other things, but I'M IN. Sounds fun!

I've got my basic idea in but need some help with mastering. I can't get my levels right, and everything sounds muddy. Anyone care to help? YOu'll get credit, and a free sneak preview Smile

Your best bet is to mute all the tracks and add one track at a time. Start with the bass and trim the frequency spectrum down to a narrow band with the tone you like. Make sure it sounds tight and isnt hogging a huge frequency range. Then the drums (especially the kick). Guitar, make sure it isnt too bassy, a common issue. Then sculpt your vocals, I like to pull down the low mids and below on vocals, it really cleans them up in the mix.

It takes a lot of the guesswork out when you add one track at a time when mixing.
