Re:Cover Challenge

Guys, I am in. Let me know when the deadline in, and all that. If someone could PM me and explain the licensing bit, I'd be greatly appreciative. I don't even really understand how I have or haven't licensed my own stuff.

I'm in ... but two questions :
- Can we ask the artist whom we want to cover for song information (chords, lyrics, ...) ? - Can we put a due date somewhere after X-mas/New Year ? anyway, I'm in. |

on each song page is a link detailing the CC license your latest song is licensed like this: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/1.0/ a quote from the license text: Waiver — Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder. so even if someone has an all rights reserved song, you can still contact them to get permission for a cover. |

i almost always use this license:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/1.0/ it's not meant to discourage remixing/covering my tunes, but rather to let me stay aware of what's happening to my music. i almost always say yes to requests to do remixes ---- cc licensing works! i needed a recording of party horns for a song, but i couldn't find anything on the web. so i made my own recording. i also posted the recording on freesound.org that silly little recording has appeared in a number of other works. the way it was licensed didn't require permission, but i got several requests anyway. that was polite and very welcome! once i did a web search and found that my recording was attributed in several other works i didn't know anything about - that was fun to discover too! |

Well I'm in...
I thought it would be fun to surprise an artist by doing a tune of his/hers without telling them but then you run the risk of duplicates and the possibility that the artist doesn't want that tune covered... I see the point... No whose tune to butcher... |

Are mutual covers OK? In other words, like if someone agrees to cover one of mine, and I also agree to cover one of theirs?
Also, is there a limit on the number of tunes we can cover? All of mine are fair game. Cheers, Jim Hear (and see) our latest: "Dark Waters" http://www.macjams.com/song/71128 http://youtu.be/-CF57HYV7VQ |
