Producers Challenge
Thursday, November 11 2010 @ 10:29 PM CST

Dec. 1st, 2010 the random pairing of "Artist and Producer" was posted.

Artist:........................................ Producer

Bud.............................................davajonah
jgurner.......................................ageofthedeathtree
toki.............................................crissew
mr_mordenus.............................MoM
dimm witness..............................VicDiesel
Macaudion..................................sschedra
richard13....................................Daugrin
ted23..........................................alimar
strangedream..............................toki
davisamerica...............................phunker
tf10music...................................Vic Holman
tonestones..................................chikoppi
particledots.................................guygrooves
jdholliday...................................The Orbiting (Matt
magnatone ................................ particledots

The guidelines:

A random pairing of artist/producer (this is a challenge after all). DAW issues will be worked out as best they can. Example: If I am working with someone who does not use GB or Logic then the artist will send MP3 or AIF files and we will work from there. This is not a "let's be perfect" challenge it is about learning what can be done from various fields of play. The producers main job will be not to "re define" the artist but to enhance the work of the artist. However .... if an artist says "Give me a total make over" then that is also in the scope of work. It will be important for the producer to do a little ground work to understand the artist and their work.
The "artist" will have final say in the track they want the "producer" to work on.
Chosen tracks to work on need to be posted (if not already) at the same time of the deadline for the finished "produced" track.
A detail from the artist and producer on their process would be included on the final track.

A companion challenge ...JD's Cover Challenge is found here:

oh hell yeah, I would be so into this. my life is so hectic lately that it's close to impossible to break out the guitar and record anything that way; but totally do-able to sit there with the laptop late at night.

it's okay if people are on different gear as well. you could just export all of the tracks individually as .aif or .wav files, leave them completely dry, and upload to whoever your producer is.

what do you think: the "producer" has final say on what a song turns out like, so it's a surprise for the "artist," OR do they work together through the process? I personally would prefer the former (just because of my own personally weird schedule and ideas on what something should sound like). I also think it would be more fun if you didn't know what to expect.

can the producer add tracks, or are they just mixing? i'm sure i'll think of other stuff, but i would definitely be into it as an "artist" and "producer." great idea.

What a cool idea.... I am still trying to get over the Two 4 Summer Challenge. Can I watch from afar?

this idea could actually REALLY be cool! i'm self-taught in this area and am constantly striving to learn more ... but maybe, possibly, my production weirdness would be considered for this? i think it'd be a chance to evolve a lil further toward what i strive to be as a producer Smile

jack ... could you let me know if this idea takes off? just in case i miss it lol
