Leslie Speakers
Saturday, April 04 2009 @ 04:40 PM CDT

My current mid life crisis is to own a Leslie type rotary speaker system. Here's what I narrowed the choice to

http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.com/product/Motion-Sound-PRO145-rotary-speaker-system?sku=481410&src=3WWRWXGB&ZYXSEM=0

Mainly because of portability. Any other folks out there have success with a small to mid size (one person move) rotary speaker. The reviews on this one were mixed, powerful, light but not that rugged.

I think it was that great Zappa whipping post thread that got me going on this. HAROLD!!! (shakes fist in air)

John, I have been forever scarred by having to carry an older style Leslie up and down stairs in my youth - the B3 our organist (they were "organists" then, "keys player" hadn't been invented yet) used was bad enough to lug, but the combination must be a chiropractor's dream!

Seriously, have fun - you'll love whatever you get Smile

Been there on both these takes. I have owned a Low Pro for eight years. I love it. It is not a Leslie. A real Leslie can be tweeked and taught to do things that are possible with a low pro but very difficult to acheive. For example, a complete power down/up landing, or power flutter/stutter effect are not possible easily with a Low Pro. On the otherhand my Low Pro is faithful, it has never broken or been to the repair bench.
One last thing. If it is your desire to gig it, demo the roto pedals now available. The Leslie, Low Pro thing has to handled, boxed etc by loving hands. A stand alone box for a fraction of the money that does what you want- might be better. The idea about not getting the sound without moving air is always there but with fuel prices and gig set up and down hassels it's a tougher trade off.

It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done.
