48 track iPad

http://auriaapp.com/Products/auria

"With the ability to play 48 mono or stereo 24bit/44.1 kHz (higher sample rates possible!) tracks simultaneously, record up to 24 of those tracks simultaneously (through any supported USB multichannel audio interface), and edit and mix with familiar tools and full parameter automation, it’s clear Auria sets a new standard for iPad multitracking."

$50 for a portable 48-track recording studio?

Holy Moley!

If it can actually function with all 48 running, this is quite a revolution.

Wow. Thanks, guys. Looks like you can even plug in a mixer through the camera adapter...

Have to find out what it's got for a metronome/rhythm machine, if anything...

I recently saw what seemed to be a near mint ADAT at the local consignment shop for fifty bucks. And I DIDN'T buy it. At one time I was desperate to get one of those... Eight digital tracks! Now I carry eight digital tracks in my courier bag every day when I walk to work...

Okay. It's got a metronome.

It's the little things...

AND...get this... you can sync up two iPads and record 96 TRACKS!

Not that I would, but that's kind of mind blowing...

And just like Amplitube and so many others, there are what seem like dozens of in app purchases you can get to add on to it...

would a 48 track session be more than the internal storage of most ipads?

i dont quite see how this is useful

the smaller recording devices/amp apps i do get, but a 48 track recorder on a device that has a maximum of 64gb storage???

give me a regular laptop and logic audio any day

You're probably right. Hard to imagine how 48 tracks will fit into 64 Gb... I think it's kind of neat that they can do it. I imagine that you probably end up doing what I used to do with GarageBand: freeze the tracks when playing back or mixing, so the processing can accomodate the project. And if some of those tracks were little things, like cowbell here or a tambourine there, or a small vocal bit, the extra tracks will mostly be useful for mixing.

And I'd probably get it and use 8 to 12 tracks... GB is probably more useful overall....

Still, it's a neat direction...
