Re:MJ City 3 ONLINE!

I must admit that my wife and I saw that portion in July last summer at Eduard's house (Tobin and the Macjams song library) Eduard made me swear to secrecy - which I did... uh,,,, until right now.

BTW, I had always pronounced it "Slop-Arts" instead of "Slo-Parts." Kind of embarrassing to admit. I'm glad this animated series cleared that up for me!

I finally had a chance to get through these. Like always... outstanding!!!
My personal favorite is the ending credits in part two. I love how the animations freeze into almost a sketch mode. Very cool indeed! Tobin, when I met with Ed down in Greenville, Texas in July 2009 we joked over breakfast about how is girl friend (jeannie) soon to be his wife first called him "Slop" "Arts" too. I guess it was a common pronunciation! LOL |

After making a promise that neither of us would accidently hit the play button before we could watch it together, Chris and I finally were able to share the viewing together and LOVED IT. Now we are on the edge of our seats waiting for episode 4. Oh... and Guy is all about crazy rules like you gotta have pants....that part was bang on LOL

Loved it, Rik (as I always do). I find your creativity and attention to detail a great inspiration. After I watch one of your MJC eps, I always feel the itch to do something creative and wish I could get my sh...tuff together and find a proper story to do my own animated saga.
![]() All the voice talent was terrific. I particularly enjoyed Tobin's performance--he played it with great humor and a slight touch of madness. ![]() Thanks for all your hard work in doing these. It's always such a kick seeing it all come together. I'll always be proud that I had the chance to play a part (small though it may be) in the second installment of this ongoing saga. Bravo! |

Showed this to my in-laws over Christmas and I had to explain for some 3 hours why I had lavender hair! They loved it Rik.

The lavender hair was killer. You tend to roll through so many great avatars, but your 'purple period' one was running at the time I was preparing your artwork, and it was a no-brainer. Many of the characters were based on their avatars, either past or present. Vic Holman's aviator was based on a 'flyboy' avatar he'd used for years, and he even sent me the vector artwork to facilitate me animating the actual avatar itself. It turned out that the visual style of the avatar wouldn't mesh with the look of the film, so I modified it somewhat so Vic's character would naturally fit in with the flow. I've wondered if anyone noticed that I'd made subtle changes to improve several characters from Episode 2. The 1-Bomber's mouth properly animates now (as opposed to the flip-in, flip-out thing previously), and Vic's pilot uniform has some subtle improvements, as does the wardrobes of Skean, Sloparts and Sheila. I've figured out how to do 'bone rigging' animation, which means, instead of moving dozens of individual graphic images around on a plane, I simply move the characters as needed. It makes difficult stuff a lot easier, and impossible stuff quite do-able. Case in point... walking. It's bloody complex and tricky when you're just sliding body parts around on a plane and trying to keep everything in relation to everything else, which is why I avoided it in Part 1. (Note the weird, weird shuffling slide that Sloparts and Sheila do at 7:14 in Episode 1). Problem is, I hated that weird, weird shuffle, and vowed to not do it in Episode 2. I did have a successful walk with DavisAmerica in Episode 2, but it took an insane amount of work and time.... there's GOT to be a better way! Now that I can do stuff like bone rigging, nested layers and movable locking locations... well, you can notice the difference - Episode 3 is FILLED with walking, running, dancing, climbing.... it's a riot! Now I'm only limited by my own abilities, which is a great place to be - I can only learn more!
Laughing out loud with joy.... that's just why I do this. That makes it all worthwhile, Tobin. Glad you caught the Fab Four... but they actually pulled a fast cameo twice! Did you catch both? Sneaking in little jokes, sometimes in sequences that will barely be seen in a 'blink of an eye', as you put it - is a lot of the fun. I'll let this slip... I'm a big fun of Underdog, the late '60's cartoon. He actually appears briefly in Episode 3, carrying Sweet Polly Purebred. And the theme song is still one of my fav tunes of all time... the lyrics of the Underdog theme form the files in Capt. PhotoShop's window. ![]() |

I liked the way my Fur Removal truck squished as I was taking off.

I finally pinned my wife down to watch these strokes of brilliance. Her first exclamation:
"That's exactly how you dance! How'd he know?!" How cool is that!
