Oh yeah! Beyond cool! The Descent Stage peters out and crashes in a thousand pieces. The rover looks so delicate and spindly. Brilliant minds at work. I hope they thought of everything. Thanks, Kevin.

I work for Wind River Systems. Our VxWorks Real Time Operating System (RTOS) has been on every Mars lander. Here is my co-worker Mike Deliman's blog on this.

It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done.

i just wept when i saw this!!! i got up in the middle of the night to see if it had landed or not cause i just couldn't STAND it!!! i love this stuff - can't wait to start following the photos! Sounds like there should be photos later today that show the rover with parachute deployed, taken from the orbiter; and others taken during the actual landing!

Actual pictures of Curiosity's decent taken from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). The MRO also runs Wind River's VxWorks Operating System. Mike Deliman told me that VxWorks controls everything in Curiosity from takeoff onward. Its not all the software in the rover, but its the underlying Operating System.
