New iMac, without a doubt. I discovered something interesting about the MacBook. If you use a Firewire interface and an external monitor, the monitor adaptor puts out interference over the firewire cable to your interface. I have found a workaround but it's still annoying. The cause is that the monitor port and the firewire ports a right next to eachother with no space in between the plugs.

New iMac (24") works like a charm with Logic Studio 8!

It runs great on my 2004 PowerPC 1.8 dual G5. Fast and stable......

Yeah, ditto. Dual 2GHz and I've yet to max it out. Logic 8 runs just fine.

Ed,

I wish I had a new desktop but it seems to work pretty well on my machine. The macbook runs it better but it's difficult to lay down tracks as I veg on the couch. To be honest with you, you have to hold back from mastering on the main channel and insert them later after you lay down all your mix. Some of the plug-ins like EZ drummer and Guitar Rig are processor hogs and you'll find you have to lock tracks. I had to do that with LE as well. The difference really stands out when your actually recording. That's where I find it lags a little. If you use the settings for your instruments that came with logic it seems to run fairly smooth.

I've actually found that Logic Pro 8 handles my controllers and interface much better than LE. In LE I couldn't turn the controllers on "on the fly" and would have to re-boot. Logic Pro has been worth it to me and should afford me many years of service with my current set up.

I have heard the program is fine. But alot of what I read and heard from friends the new intel macs suck. They have to many problems for what you pay. I think a good G-5 may be a tiny bit slower yet it seems to be overall more reliable.

After further reading I found out that if your using the Adaptive Limiter plug-in on your mains and you have it set high to Lookahead it will cause latency when recording. That would happen as well on a new machine. This was an issue I was having, problem solved...Ed go get you a copy. Just don't try to run one of the demos.
