Re:New iMacs
Friday, October 30 2009 @ 09:45 PM CDT

My old eMac decided last week to stop making disk image files to make DVDs from. That was all the excuse I needed! I ordered a new iMac (the cheapest one -- 'only' a 500gb hard drive!) and it should arrive next week.

My first Mac was 1998 -- a 2 gb hard drive on my beige all-in-one Mac 5500/225. When will I ever fill up two gigs, I thought.

Then 2001 -- 20 gigs on my indigo iMac. Wow, I was in heaven.

2004 -- got an eMac with 80 gigs. How would I ever fill that up?

2007 -- my whole family (5 of us) is getting iPods. Everybody needs their own accounts on the eMac. Took the eMac to the shop to swap the hard drive for a 200g version. Man, that will NEVER get filled up!

(As of right now, that 200g drive only has 7 gigs left -- that's after I took "High School Musical 2" off my daughter's iTunes, and I deleted PBS "Legends of Jazz" from my iTunes. I had been down to 2 gigs left.)

2009 -- getting a 500 gig drive with my new iMac. Right now I seriously do think I will never fill up 500 gigs. Time will tell.

Feels like Christmas!

Until now, that G4 eMac has been rock-solid. It runs Leopard, albeit a little slowly. It has five accounts, and is used daily by all five of us. I made two jazz piano CDs on it. It has been my right arm for five years. Thanks, Apple.

My 2010 jazz piano CD on the iTunes store.

Not wishing to piss on anyone's parade, but.....

http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/29/27-inch-imacs-having-performance-issues/

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones cause I've watched more videos than anything else on this machine & have had no complications like illustrated in the video.

Maybe you havent, but....

....a significant amount of people are having problems it seems

Always seems to be the safest bet to wait until at least the 2nd generation of a new version of apple computers (in my experience)

btw - you are finding some amazing deals on 24" imacs - apart from the faster processor, i think they may be better spec machines than the current 22" imacs

I can confirm issues with the 27" iMac with regards to Flash content. I was at my local Apple store this afternoon and tested out a few videos on YouTube and they were slow and stuttered. Tried the same videos on the 21.5" and not problems. This was only on one 27" machine, but there was definitely a problem on that one. Wonder if they'll sort this out by the time the quad cores are available in November? I was planning on picking up one of these when they come out next month but if Apple can't get this sorted I might just go all out and pick up an octocore tower. I will say the 27" iMac is just beautiful and the display is amazing.

Have to say I was a bit peturbed when I saw they were using ATI graphics in these things....why??? Apple/ATI never seem to be a good mix

I haven't had problems all week with video but i've been shutting my 27" down after use. Today I decided to leave in on all day & by this evening the video was jerky. I reset the PRAM >>> command-option-P- R >> & now I works fine for how long I don't know...

I will leave it on all night without setting the perimeter RAM again & give it a test in the morning..I feel it's a short term remedy. Some say on the Apple forum its the airport card which I'm using. What ever the problem I"m confident Apple will address the problem with their so called "Best consumer support " I'll keep this link updated
