Re:mac mail question

I was having problems with sbcglobal as well. It ended up being an issue with sbcglobal. The provider had updated their POP and SMTP server configurations and I failed to update all my settings.... I should have payed more attention to their email notification. I contacted sbcglobal and the tech had me up and running again.

First: if you set up a new account with Mail, your existing emails will not be lost, deleted or destroyed, unless you choose to delete the old account. With Mail you can have more than one email account operating at the same time – I have three. If you're not using one, you don't have to completely delete an old account – simply disable it in preferences so Mail will not try to send or receive through that account.

Second: regarding the changing port numbers, are you using SSL? Whether you are or aren't, I would suggest trying the opposite. There will likely be different port numbers supplied by the email provider, and different incoming and outgoing server addresses too.

thanks David, everything is working great now and all old emails are saved while the sbcglobal account is nullified.

sbcglobal/yahoo/att has a weird port issue. on their site there were a list of potential ports that they could be using (along with potential smtp addresses). the whole thing is a pretty haphazard arrangement (that they actually had the nerve to tell me could be remedied if i bought yahoo mail plus).

anyways all is well. thanks for the tips.
