Save Sibelius Software
Friday, August 03 2012 @ 03:35 PM CDT
As a former Opcode Vision (Gibson) and mTropolis (Quark) user, I've seen this before. Big company gobbles up little company for a key technology and completely screws over the user base when they off the team and the original software.

I know a petition campaign is fruitless but it can't hurt either. Anyway, maybe third time will be the charm!

Scum Bags
I picked up the ukulele at about 12 years of age and picked up the piano at about the same time. The ukulele is a far smaller instrument and did not give me a hernia. |

I am an avid capitalist, but this makes no sense to me. Even my company (Wind River) which is always dancing for wall street, will take technology that has become ubiquitous and turn it over to the open source community. Its a Win/win. The user community maintains and enhances the technology and if you want commercial liability, licensing and support you come to us. I don't see where mothballing a foundational technology is in any way good business. They could make the same money, but then turn it over to open source or sell it off and make even more money. This is just plain silly and really undermines a whole segment of the arts that depends on this software.

Gibson has done it about a dozen times and they are still in business.

I am a Finale user, but I feel the pain of composers who have spent countless hours becoming 'expert' at a particular software program, only to know that it is now in the process of being forced into mediocrity (and then into a slow death.) Sorry to hear this.
