Now if I can get my old buddy Scott to ressurrect his hilariously demented After Dark screensavers... the "Bungie -jumping cows" (that sometimes splat and turn into a pile of steaks... and the "King on the Throne" (Elvis sitting on a flying toilet). Anybody remember those?

God I miss After Dark! I'm sure I've used every one of their screensavers at some point. Definitely will be turning on the toasters.
EDIT: Drat, it doesn't work for me. It's in the right folder but doesn't turn up in the pop-up list. Do I need Tiger for it to work? Newly Nerfed, a home for disabled geekery. |

According to what I read, OS 10.4 and higher. This was one of my favorite screen savers way back when. Too bad this version doesn't have the sound FX the original did.
Thanks for the link jgurner!! Drakonis, I do remember something called After Dark, but maybe it was the name of a particular screen saver. (night sky, shooting stars, ect.) |

A little company called "Berkeley Systems" wrote a screensaver package called "After Dark", which had modules in it like "Shooting Stars", "Flying Toasters", etc. They published the module/plugin API, so other people could write their own screensavers and drop them in... this was long long ago. Berkeley also bought a little company that had a crazy game-show thing called "You Don't Know Jack" which was wildly popular for a while. Berkeley is now long gone, but they sold their assets to a Japanese company that still does Mac screensaver stuff I think. I was helping write a screensaver for them that would have "Bad Dog" run out to the mailbox and get your e-mail for you, and display the headers on the screen.
Edit: Duh... if you want the real history, including the link to the Japanese (MacOSX-compatible) After Dark company, click here to read the Wikipedia article about it! ttfn, Drakonis |

Ah. I'm still operating at 10.3.9. Probably going to wait for Leopard to come out and then get a new computer altogether. The toasters will have to wait. Thanks! Newly Nerfed, a home for disabled geekery. |
