Re:Noiseless Macs

I love my G5 iMac in every way EXCEPT, despite claims at the time that it came out, it gets VERY noisy...

ESPECIALLY when I'm using GarageBand. I have 1 Gb of RAM, which I thought would be enough for what I do...

The fan kicks on when I record, and there's just no way to keep the noise out of the mic. I've got Auralex foam around the mic, but it really doesn't make a big difference... I'm relying on tight editing and judicious use of RAM-hog SoundSoap to clean up the tracks, but that's not ideal... I want some really perfect quiet....

I'm already saving for an Intel Core Duo, but feel frustrated that I'm already working to get out of this computer that is perfect for me in every other way...

If there's a way to get around this, that doesn't turn the CPU into molten slag, I'd be interested....

Hmm .. teething troubles .. would it still be too early to get one (or maybe it will always be too early since new models carry so many news nowdays(?))

I'm waiting until MacWorld in January. They might come out with some new and interesting things then. (I never read the rumors site because their prediction accuracy ain't so impressive.) After that I'm getting the 24" iMac if there's no reason not to.

Hmm .. do you have any hunch of any kind of what may come in Januari?
Or do big things usually come on January MacWorld?
And do you think it would be reason to await some more teething problems to disappear?

I have an Intel Imac with dual core and I never gave noise much thought before this post. My mac is dead silent. I never hear the fan even kick on now that you mentioned it. I run LE7 with 1.5 gig of ram and 1.83 Inel processor and I couldn't be happier.

Really nice information, especially considering how much useful computer power is packed in an Intel Imac core 2 dual .. and the price for it..
