![]() Longer term though I would expect companies who experience higher productivity to be able to satisfy customers better leading to more cusotmers, leading them to grow in size. |

I must admit, the careful phrasing of the words is pretty funny "....Apple's new operating system, codenamed Leopard, will create 0 new jobs when it is launched... ....Vista's release will create 100,000 new jobs in tech support..."
I am aware of the MacAfinity of MacLovers to Macs. Not too much problem for me there, I want one; but the hate thrown at me for being a PC user for now is hard to take sometimes. Not to mention, the cost involved with purchasing & owning a Mac, limited available programs for purchase in the open market, and from what I've seen on this forum, nobody can even work on their own Mac to repair a simple thing like a hard drive! What's up with that crap? As far as I know, a person who loves to build his own computer cannot even consider building or repairing a Mac system??? Nevertheless, I still want one; MacAfficionados swear that it's the best thing EVER!!! One of these days I'll be blessed with the opportunity. Further; WHY, oh WHY does Apple spend so much time and money in ads trying to bash & slam their competition with Stupid singularly focused demeaning commercials, instead of promoting their alleged Superior products, applications, and Bona-Fide cost effective Business & Personal Solutions? Talk about negative reinforcement! Why not work to demonstrate superiority by example and proven experience? I still want a Mac. Don't really know exactly why; just because I've not had one, and MacLovers say, "it's the ONLY computer out there...", I guess.... Someone help me out here, I must be missing something.... |

"He'd be a broader guy if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger." I do have friends that work in IT... I'd hate to see them lose their jobs. Music is my toy |

no one is losing jobs...they are adding....10,000 plus......as far as macs and fixng them....depending on which mac u get.....imac versus a tower.....the tower one can install/fix harddrives, cards, etc...just like any pc.......the imac is more a closed system but there are ways to get around it.....i have installed a neww hardrive on my powerbook g4 laptop with some instructions from the vendor.....not to hard...as far as software......instead of multple pc applications that are redundant the mac might have one or two high quality ones to get the job done......etc...etc....i see the anti mac myths are still alive.......

Not anti-Mac here, I want one... Maybe the myths are getting the most over me... So maybe a tower might be a better solution for me? considering immobility, etc... |

Apple uses "emotional marketing" (aka "experiential marketing") for their brand. Consumers don't buy Apple products to be cost effective. Consumers buy Apple because they want to associate their identity (ego) with creativity, social superiority, and non-conformity. This strategy allows Apple to target (and dominate) a particular market segment while supporting premium product pricing. Where Microsoft driven PCs appeal to "rational" or "budgetary" consumer purchasing habits Apple products appeal to the "experiential" or "lifestyle" conscious consumer. I have long ranted against another equally devistating economic albatross perpetrated by Microsoft. When they "broke" web standards with Internet Explorer they greatly increased the amount of time web developers needed to spend building and testing web sites. They also handicapped web functionality by eliminating some very useful W3 standards from the designer's tool kit. Every time I build a web site I pay a little productivity tax because of Microsoft's decision. |

Macs are easy to work on. I've repaired my own HD recently...by myself. The new internal layout of the mac is amazing. Mostly plug and play components. Genius. East to program, easy to organize, and all the software remotely important is also available on a mac. And this is coming from an old PC user. Sorry Harold. I understand your annoyance at beingb gawked at, but macs really are amazing. Just ask Pie. He'll sing it for you! EE |
