HOMOPHOBIA on macjam
Tuesday, February 16 2010 @ 04:07 AM CST

i just came across the following songhttp://www.macjams.com/song/56294 posted by thepilot. the song is overtly and (unashamedly) homophobic. one of the lyrics is "you're sick". the artist is very young and says he's not homophobic...and i don't believe that he is anything but naive. what is astonishing is the response to his song. a few have taken issue with it, but the overwhelming majority of people have POSITIVELY reinforced it with ENCOURAGING comments. their artist names are below. of course you can go to the song and see the comments for yourself so am i compromising anyone's right to privacy here? no - didn't think so.

my third month on this site....nice - it makes me feel very welcome. thanks you guys - loving your work.

i rarely post on the forums, i hang out here for the music, but since you called me out...that song is funny. i fanned it because i didn't doubt that the artist was writing tongue in cheek and because i admired the fact that he threw it out there, surely knowing that he'd offend a bunch of people who take themselves too seriously. and here's a fun fact: if you took every rock song that mortally offended some group out of the catalog you'd be left with pat boone. that might be cool for you but i'll take my chances with the offenders.

FYI, critiquing a commentor for their grammar - so gay.

i just came across the following song ...

I see you've had your say on the song in the song comments. That's good.

But dragging this out into the forums is not so good.

Why? Because doing so makes it become a general call for censorship on the site. That is not a good thing.

Julian, this is a pretty liberal site. As long as one is not personally attacking another member or person spitefully, it seems that expression is generally allowed.

I don't think that mounting a campaign in these forums and calling people out can be a healthy thing for anyone.

I'm not afraid of homos, but I am afraid of people who stir up trouble just to stir up trouble.

Ya know I dont care about the issue either way, for any givin issue there is always 2 sides. What I do care about is censorship, I mean whats next should we have a labeling system like g rated or x rated, Another thing is, if you find it offensive dont listen. Let me take this a step further, how about you just disconnect from the internet, the internet can be a very offensive place.

I think people are losing thier minds, lets get real

you've nothing to be afraid of...and no=one is stirring up trouble; it's a topic for discussion. it might be a very sensitive topic, but there's nothing to be afraid of.

Strangely enough your "list" of wrong doers does not include everyone... As if you singled out a few of us... Wonder why?

Anyway as was said above this is a pretty liberal site. I fanned the song because I took the time to listen and recognize that someone but a little effort into making it. My fanning does not immediately place me in agreement with the subject matter.

if that were the case there would be a fair number of songs I could not support. I support music for the pure effort of making it. Sure if the subject matter is one I can see and agree with it is even better, but simply put, even if I don't agree with it, I can (and should on this site) support it.

I will apologize to you if my support of this song caused you any distress. That of course was never the intention.
